Default Television Series (Blu-ray)

Why is are so few companies releasing TV shows/series on Blu-Ray?

I guess I will continue waiting to buy a blu-ray player....

TV series are very expensive to produce right now. The average customer isn't going to drop $75-125 for a season set. Therefore the studios are concentrating on their bigger catalog titles for the time being. Once BD takes off and production costs come down I'm sure you'll see a major increase in TV sets on BD. I'm not sure how many of the older 4:3 series you'll see outside of things along the lines of the original Star Trek series. But I too am looking forward to the day more TV series are produced on BD. It's frustrating to follow up watching Prison Break S1 on BD with S2 on DVD. The difference in quality is night and day.

TV series on BD are cool and all, but lack of TV titles shouldn't stop you from getting a Blu-ray player. Just watch TV shows on TV! Or even (heaven forbid) DVD. MOST shows don't have the high production values, HD picture or HD audio that movies have...some do, and more or on their way, but don't let a few TV SHOWS keep you from the best movie experience.

Some great shows are already being released on BD. Show you support for them and more will surely follow.
Lost (the BEST one IMO)
The Sapranos
Weeds
The Tudors (UK import)
some other stuff...do an amazon search!

The Robin Hood season 1 is coming out. Also I believe I read that Torchwood season1 is coming out in the UK. Both are worth checking out.

Well a lot of tv shows especially older ones were 4:3. So there really wouln't be a difference. Ok the picture maybe a little bit sharper. I would love to see Freaks and Geeks on Blu.

Yeah... I don't think I'd re-buy all my TV series on BLU, especially since they get upconverted (on DVD)... However, I would re-buy:

Heroes (I REALLY hope they make this on BLU)
The Office
House

Prison Break has recently been release in blu.

Personally I just want Buffy (I know a pipe dream), Angel, or Supernatural in blu.

Sure, except I rarely buy movies, I have over 100 different televisions shows (300+ seasons of TV shows) from 50's, 60's, 70's and 80's on DVD. I have very few from the 90's and 00's because I figured I would hold out for those on blu. I have maybe 30 movies on DVD. So blu for movies is not a priority. The other important factor for my support of blu was that it is a better backup media for my computer hard drives (around 12 terabytes).

It will all come in handy when I move to a non-english speaking country - I can bring my own TV with me

Why does everyone say they want to wait until blu ray gets more titles...or not buy blu ray players until it has more going for it....You have to buy and support blu ray before they will do more...Just think if everyone thought the way you do...Blu ray would be dead like hd dvd is now.

Because buying a blu-ray machine today for NO MEDIA - just does not make much financial sense. Sony says they "expect" 50% uptake of blu-ray by the end of the year .... without TV this is not going to happen (it is not going to happen anyways...but)

How can you say that? I know plenty of people who think it is pointless to buy tv on DVD, and think that I am nuts for buying TV DVDs.

Movies will always be the main drive for any next gen player. TV is just icing .
