Default Good budget HDMI receivers?

Hello guys, I'm looking for suggestions for a receiver right around the $300 price mark, that will accept audio via HDMI for my PS3. DO NOT SUGGEST THE ONKYO 605! That runs around $400, I've already looked at that receiver. Here are some that I've found:

http://reviews.cnet.com/av-receivers...-32331246.html

http://reviews.cnet.com/av-receivers...-32143113.html

I'd like to see your other suggestions.

The Yamaha doesn't state anything about PCM audio capabilities. And the Sony doesn't say anything about Multichannel PCM. They state that, so long as you have a player that decodes the HD audio tracks, the receiver can pass it through as PCM... but they don't state the type of PCM. It could potentially only pass it as 2 ch PCM.

Buyer beware in both instances!

Sony's STR-DDG 720's run around $299 I'm thinking about getting that one for myself. http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/...52921665361526

Because the PS3 decodes all audio formats now, it doesn't matter if the reciever can decode or not, everything will be sent PCM. I don't know much about the Panasonic reciever, it might be nice as well. The 720 seems to be the better choice though, it has 7.1 and a little more power. Plus it has three HDMI inputs. It looks like the Panasonic only has one.

I've had the 720 for a little over a week now. Awesome receiver for me, so far.

7.1 channel, PCM audio capable, does everything I want it to do for a 300$ price-point.

If you're looking for a receiver that'll give you the best the PS3 has to offer at affordability, it comes highly recommended. I love mine!

Good to know. I'm going for the 720 next month. I have an older Sony reciever that's not HDMI capable, but it was a HT in a box deal. I had to upgrade my speakers first before going for the reciever. Those old speakers were all right, but I want to be able to sell the whole thing as a set to someone else.

Reading the description of what the Sony 720 does it seems like it is a good system for the less tech savvy people in the audio department as I am myself. Anywho it states to have Bravia Sync with a select number of bravia LCD's being that I own a Sony Bravia XBR2 40" I was wondering if the sync will work with this because it never really states which models this sync works with any clue????

Check out the manual for it, see what it says. I could dig mine out, but might be good to see the thing before you buy, all the same.

Based off DutchBoy's recommendation and some other great advice in another thread, I just bought the Sony 720 last week.

So far I've only watched one Blu-ray movie - 300 - but it sounded great! I'll vouch for it's quality (as a non-technical non-audiophile), ease of setup, and ability to accept Linear PCM via HDMI. It works great with the PS3 and has 3 HDMI ports in the back along with tons of other connections for the Xbox, Wii, etc.

No regrets yet, although the center channel seemed a little weak - I had to turn it up on some quieter scenes with only talking... I think I just need to re-run the audio calibration.

For the price, I found the features to be excellent. There is a Yamaha that Best Buy sells that is similar, but it's only 5.1 (not 7.1 like the Sony) and only has 2 HDMI (versus 3).

That was the same price range I was looking in last week - so I totally understand your position. The members of the board here seem to really like the Onkyo, but if you want to buy from a brick and mortar shop, they are more expensive. The Sony and the Yamaha were the only two I found that were able to stream PCM via HDMI and still had a tag of $300.

Good luck!

Depending on the rules of this site, I'm not sure if this method is the way to go but, I happen to have a Yamaha RV-V661 that happens to accept audio via HDMI. I bought it last year in October, and now I don't really need it because my fiance bought me the Onkyo 605 for Christmas, so now I am trying to sell it. I've only used it until December, so it's in mint condition, in it's original packaging, and it has also been registered with Yamaha, so it's still under warranty.
I do feel bad because it's going to collect dust if I don't sell it. You're more that welcomed to it for $300 if this helps... Let me know if you are interested...

They were. I got one at that price with no sales tax and free shipping. Came yesterday. Now the price is back up to about 379.00, which is still a great price IMO.

Glad you like it.

Yeah, re-run the cal. or just set the center channel to a higher db level -- it can make all the difference in the world.

go with the str-dg910 it's 7.1 pcm capable and is being sold on amazon for 349.99. It has 1 HDMI in 1 HDMI, it upconverts anything you plug in throught it to 1080p that is not HDMI so it upconverts component connections, and does 110 watts per channel...I have it and it has a great sound quality
