this is getting pretty depressing:

"Nothing is official yet, but multiple outlets are reporting Martin Scorsese‘s upcoming film The Wolf of Wall Street is highly unlikely to hit its November 15, 2013 release date.

The film stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Matthew McConaughey, Jonah Hill, Kyle Chandler and Jean Dujardin, and rumor has it Scorsese recently turned in a near-three hour cut and needs to slim it down closer to two. That’ll take some time, and that time will likely mean the film misses the 2013 Oscar race."

http://www.slashfilm.com/martin-scor...e/#more-195606

http://insidemovies.ew.com/2013/09/2...-release-date/

"One of the Oscar season’s most anticipated movies is feeling the pressure to get to the party on time. Martin Scorsese’s The Wolf of Wall Street, the true tale of a millionaire broker’s rise and fall starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Matthew McConaughey, is still scheduled to open in theaters Nov. 15. But as The Hollywood Reporter first claimed, Paramount is already making plans to delay its release until Christmas to give Scorsese more time to trim a movie that is currently three hours long, according to a source close to the production.

The studio currently has Jack Ryan slated for Dec. 25, but director Kenneth Branagh’s spy reboot with Chris Pine as the iconic Tom Clancy hero could be pushed to January, according to The Reporter, if need be. That would keep Wolf of Wall Street in the Oscar race, where DiCaprio, Scorsese, and screenwriter Terence Winter would likely receive some attention. But there remains the possibility that the film won’t be release-ready by that date either, in which case it could be pushed to 2014.
Paramount did not respond to EW’s requests for comment. "

I am gonna be pissed if they cut too much out of this movie. Aint not a damn thing wrong with a movie running near three hours.

Why would they tell Scorsese to trim a film, let him keep his vision damn it. Looks like a 2hr 40min kind of movie to me, which is a close to three hour film, it does not look like a close to 2hour film.

It's simple. They tell him to cut it to two hours because that's the only way they can get it down to two-and-a-half.

How many times have we watched this dance?

If it's following the book, it transpires over a decade+.

I know nothing about the book, but it feels like something very much in line with Goodfellas and Casino so I can easily see this being a 3 hour film.

Scorsese hasn't made a film less than 2 hours since 1986:

Hugo: 2 hr 8 min
Shutter Island: 2 hr 18 min
The Departed: 2 hr 31 min
The Aviator: 2 hr 49 min
Gangs of New York: 2 hr 44 min
Casino: 2 hr 58 min
Age of Innocence: 2 hr 19 min
Cape Fear: 2 hr 7 min
Goodfellas: 2 hr 26 min
The Last Temptation of Christ: 2 hr 44 min
The Color of Money 2 hr

And what sucks is that Scorcese believes the theatrical cut should always be considered his "Director's Cut", so we'll probably never see his initial version of this on home video.

We live in a world where we get unnecessarily long movies like the Lone Ranger with a 2hr 30min runtime, but Martin Scorsese can't release a 3 hour film.

I'd rather they take their time, even if I don't like the film needing to be edited down, and not rush to make the release date. That said, I'm surprised there's things in the film that would really push it to an NC-17 rating...I guess we'll have to wait and see what happens. I wonder if test screening audiences had anything to do with this...

The book is basically one long, lurid sex and drug romp.

If Scorsese wanted to highlight the depravity, I can see the initial censorship, errrrrr rating.
