They are not dropping plasmas yet, they are outsourcing some production aspects.

There's Pioneer (but you will pay for it), then Panasonic, then everyone else.

So many people make this same mistake, equate panel production to building/selling TVs.

Expensive, without a doubt. Overpriced? That's a subjective assessment.

24p @ 3:3 or motionflow to 72Hz
36-bit deep colour and xvYCC support
The blackest blacks since CRT (for some, this alone is worth the extra cost)
Incredible colour accuracy

Everyone needs to decide if something is overpriced for themselves. I wonder who some are trying to convince, others or themselves?

Pioneer for sure!! If you know how to bargain the price difference from a Panny is not much.

Where do you people get your misinformation?!

Pioneer is NOT dumping their plasma TVs. All they're doing is outsourcing the panels. Pioneer will still do their own R&D, provide other bits of their "secret sauce", and will still sell plasma TVs.

Can we put this FUD to bed now, please?

If you're not looking to break the bank on a Pioneer Kuro 720p they're $2,200 at Best Buy, plus there are 10% coupons floating around if you do a quick google search.

Yeah, the 5080 - had my eyes on that one for a bit. Although I wouldnt mind a 5010. One wonders how much the negligible difference would be.
