Question amazon.com + shipping to canada

(i know this isnt really a "hot deal" but it is the one place to discuss things with fellow canadians)

how many blu rays can i get in one shipment?

because the shipping cost is $4.99 per shipment and $2.99 per item for dvd/blu

so if i were to purchase for example 4 blu rays = 4.99 + 2.99(4) = $16.95(assuming one order)

so has anyone ordered from amazon.com to canada, if so, how many blus could you fit in one order?

and also, would it tell you on amazon.com how many shipments are required before you purchase?

I have been ordering from Amazon.com (not Amazon.ca) for nearly a year now. I have ordered 10+ items at a time with no limit in sight; so I don't believe there is a maximum. Just be advised that nothing from the order will ship until all items are in stock (they will ship all items in one shipment). The part that makes this all worthwhile is that there are no customs fees or taxes of any kind (that, and the prices are far cheaper @ the dot.com). Besides that, the cover art isn't littered with the need to be bilingual.

Amazon.com ships Canadian orders out of their Canadian warehouse in Mississauga so you don't pay duties.

Default Exchange rate charged to Canadian credit card.

Just wondering if anyone has been charged exchange on blu ray purchases at Amazon.com with a Canadian credit card. Last time I ordered from them I used a U.S. dollard Mastercard and was charged exactly what my Amazon order said.

Thanks.

I use a Canadian credit card and I am always charged the exchange rate + bank fees . (Note that depending on the bank and the amount of BDs ordered this could cancel any profit.. (Even when the US and CAD were on par, there was some loss in exchange rate. Of course, when there is a BOGO, you just can't beat amazon. COM)

It depends on how close you are to the warehouse, if it is in stock at the Canadian warehouse and what shipping method you choose. I live in Nova Scotia and with expediated shipping I have gotten things in 3 days. The estimated delivery date is never right.

If it's shipped from the Canadian warehouse you will get it much sooner then June 15th.

Pretty much everywhere you exchange currency, you are charged an exchange fee on top of the actual exchange rate. For most Canadian credit cards, it is 2.5% added on to the exchange rate. So, if the USD & CAD are on par, you will be charged 1.025 * USD. I would have to say, if all that is saved by ordering from a US retailer is 2-3%, so that the exchange fee makes it a non-deal, then it isn't even worth the hassle. Luckily, the savings from Amazon.com are almost always significantly higher than this.

I'm a Canadian that been buying from Amazon.com for 2 years. Even when the Canadian dollar was just barely over $0.90 USD, I always got my order cheaper than it would have been from Amazon.ca. Every time I order I always fake the same order through Amazon.ca to see what the total will become. And even with the exchange rate, shipping and credit card currency exchange fees, I have always still save a minimum of %5 compared to Amazon.ca! It has become a no-brainer for me... I still always check though.

Question Something changed?

Resurrecting this thread again because something strange happens now when I place orders from .com. Before confirming the order, or after completing it and going back to the "View or Change Order" page, the following text in bold font appears at the bottom of the screen:

ALL ITEMS IN THIS ORDER ARE SOLD BY AMAZON EXPORT SALES, INC. (AES), UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED. BY PLACING YOUR ORDER, YOU AUTHORIZE AES TO DESIGNATE A CARRIER TO CLEAR THE PACKAGE AND PAY THE IMPORT FEES ON YOUR (OR THE RECIPIENT'S) BEHALF. CUSTOMS DECLARATIONS WILL BE MADE IN THE NAME AND ON THE BEHALF OF YOUR (OR THE RECIPIENT'S) BEHALF BY THE DESIGNATED CARRIER. YOU CAN FIND THE COMPLETE TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF YOUR ORDER HERE

It happens on all my orders now regardless of the titles included, and none of my BDs are "Export" sold, they all say "sold by Amazom.com, LLC"

Is anyone else experiencing this or know if this changes anything (i.e. shipments coming from Mississauga)? I'm a little afraid of my next order coming (it's a big one)... hoping this is just a warning message in case any of the titles did not say "sold by Amazon.com, LLC" ...!
