Default surrounds for RTiA9

Hi,

I am thinking to upgrade my mains (front L and R) to polk audio RTiA9.I am thinking to get the csiA6 for the center. What would be the best surrounds for these speakers?.I was looking the monitor series? but my onkyo 805 is 130W per channel and also rated at 8 ohms.any idea??I am mainly considering polk audio.

I would get a pair of bookshelf speakers from the same RTiA line. Those speakers will then be timbre matched with the rest of your setup. The monitors are not made of the same cone material so they won't be timbre matched, I would advise you not to get those, but it won't make that much difference as they are just surrounds.

You could also check out the FXi surrounds as I think they match your front speakers as well.

Hi Maddy,

Does the watts per channel really come into play? I mean if my onkyo 805 is 130W/channel, do I have to get the surrounds in the same range say greater than or equal to 130W.Thanks for your reply!

Default Polk surrounds

Since you are using the largest towers in the RTi line as well as their largest center speaker my best suggestion would be their FXi 6A:
http://www.polkaudio.com/homeaudio/p...urround/fxia6/
This speaker would be the best match Poolk has to offer in this line.
Good Shopping!!!

I own the FXi4's for surrounds... I own the RTi series of polks myself, with RTi6's for fronts, and the older CSi5 for center... they're older than your line of speakers, but only cosmetically, same specs... only my FXi4's are the newer line...

You'll be happy with the FXi4's, good bass response and seamless with the rest of the polk line... FXi6's will better suit your bigger speaker suite, although they're significantly larger than the fxi4's, with not much of an audible improvement, in my opinion. U'll be very pleased either one though

The extra 30 watts is not going to fry those speakers. The 130 WPC is only at peak moments in a movie anyways so you would be fine.

I have the RTi70 as my fronts and a while back I had some cheaper speakers as surrounds. It worked for a bit, but I got tired of them. After I got tired of them, I HATED them and upgraded to the RTi28 for surrounds. It makes a big difference. Speakers that are smaller or not manufactured from the same material cannot be timbre matched and and more difficult to level match as well. If you are strapped for cash, the cheap speakers that you have now will work until you can save up a bit more. But definitely plan to get surrounds that match the rest of your system in the future as it really makes a difference. I think you soon grow weary of the monitor 30's, but thats just my opinion.

I ran monster-white speaker cable right below the crown moulding (as discrete as possible) and then ran about 9 inches vertically down to where the speaker's hanging using just a drywall-screw (really it's all you need to mount with) and connected via speaker plugs (highly recommended)

The rears were trickier, my living room doesn't have a backwall, because my dining area is adjacent to the living room, so i used ceiling mounts (believe it or not) the fxi4 hanging from the ceiling is a bit of an eyesore, but they're white speakers, so it's not too terrible. But if you have a back wall to mount the rears from, then do the same as with the sides, use a single drywall screw (the wall-mounts are already attached to each speaker)

Hope this helps... i'll try to post some pics by tomorrow

Default Use the link

You can read the owners manual off the web site...
Rule of thumb: Speakers to the side set to Dipole
Speakers behind you set to Bipole

But every room is unique place them as your room reqires, run the set up in the receiver and then start flipping switches see what sounds good to you
When everything is said and done That is all that matters..

Sorry, i misuderstood. To be honest with you i haven't taken the grills off since i first took them out of the box so i don't remember what way the woofers are facing... but even better... each speaker will be designated, either left or right, so arrange accordingly

On the rear of each speaker, you will find a dipole/bipole switch. For side surround, select Dipole.

For rear Surround, select Bipole

Polk made it pretty easy, so just follow the config and you'll have the correct setup

Yes they are marked right and left
If place as marked the woofer side will be playing away from the seating position (depending on where you place them)
Lets assume the Right surround is on a side wall...directly to your right... not in front or behind your seating position.. the surface facing forward towards the TV will have the woofer/tweeter the side facing towards the back of the room will have the tweeter/port

Now lets say the speakers are on side walls but behind you by a few feet..
Setting them up as directed the woofer is now pointed towards you...
if its too much you COULD simply switch the left and right sides so the woofers are pointed back away from you..

There is no single correct way to wire up a system.

See what sounds bestr for you.

I agree with the red font... I would try the suggested way first, in my case the suggested way worked, and my side surrounds are about 10 inches in front of the couch... I am more than happy this way, very nice-wide soundstage... 5.1 surround sounds like 10.1 (if that makes anysense)
