Default Polk RTiA9 and Yamaha HTR-5740

Advice wanted...I currently have the above mentioned receiver. Not too beefy, puts out 85 W RMS. I have a 5.1 setup that is fine but want to upgrade my "Zone B" speakers which are dedicated Stereo listening only. I'm looking at the above mentioned Polks which list power handling as 50-500 Watts. I realize that a more powerful receiver is optimal for driving these but until I upgrade, will my receiver be sufficient to drive them and not damage them in anyway. Clipping is the term I have heard when the receiver does not have enough power for the speakers. Thanx for any input.

You'll have plenty of power, no worries of clipping.

Thanx for the info. Anybody have the RTiA9s or similar Polks and care to comment on their music performance? I have never owned any and hear nothing but good things. I currently have some thirteen year old CVs (let the hating begin) that I have no problems with. I'm just hoping to get a fuller sound at the risk of losing some low end from the CVs 12'' Sub. The RTiA9s have three 7'' Subs so I'm thinkin the low end should be good with those and the highs and mids would be better than my CVs.

not sure about those polks, but I'd say they've gotta be a vast improvement over the CV's (I have some in my basement actually.... 12" towers, 15" sub, center/rears) The Cerwin Vegas are so muddy, and lack so much detail, you'll be very happy with about any new speaker setup!!!!
