It's BS sending it back to Onkyo, or bringing it to a dealer, they should have clear instructions on updating it, can't be that difficult.
this update isnt even listed on the onk site. the update on the onk site for the 605 doesnt include the issue with the dts ma bitstream bomb. the units for these models including the 605 that are not affected are the ones that were mfg. recently.

that explains why icon disappeared. oh well. not a big deal.

probably not affected but when you get it, register online and then check the instructions. it will tell you how to see the dsp versions and what its suppose to be after the update.

Guys just to be clear this is only a DSP update (Digital Signal Processor), there is actually another firmware update which can only be done through the RS 232 port, you can buy USB to RS 232 connectors.

You need to have the DSP update before you can do the Firmware update.

Interesting. I don't see a link to the 805 firmware update anywhere. Any idea where I can find the latest firmware version?

Question, when I went to Onkyo and put in my info it said I did not need the firmware update. My 605 is very new. But someone said this was not even on the site so do all 605's need this update to avoid the POP from bitstreamed DTS MA? Sorry if this was already posted I couldn't find it

Thanks

Rigs

There are reports of the firmware being pre-installed on newer models.

Will a PS3 work? I don't have a separate cd player but I'm thinking about getting this ONKYO.

Yes, I used the PS3 to do the DSP update on our Onkyo 705.

I did the update a couple of weeks ago without issue. I did not use my PS3 for the update since I already had a CD changer hooked up via optical. I would surmise that if you played the update from your PS3 through the optical out to the appropriate input, it should work just fine. Having said that, it sure would be nice to know if anyone has been successful with that approach. For the money, you won't be disapointed with the sound of an Onkyo if you decide to go that way. Good luck.

I love my Onkyo 875 I did the update a few weeks ago with my PS3. Very easy.

Here are the settings.
BD Setting: Optical : bitstream
Music Settings: Crossfade Playbackff
Audio CD Output Freq:44.1
Bitmapingff
Sound Settings:
Audio Output Settings:Linear PCM 2 ch 44.1khz and 48khz checked

You can change them back to what you had before after you complete the DSP update

was the crossfade and bitmaping necessary?
