Default ps3 update for DTS-MA

I just updated my ps3 (40g) with the new version 2.30 but DTS-MA does not show up under the sound choices on the ps3 menu, I checked the version under system info and it says version 2.30. Also the new reciever I just got that does decode DTS-MA does not say MA just DTS-ES 6.1. Any ideas?

DTS-ES isn't DTS-MA.

do you have HDMI audio output enabled? Sounds like you're just going through optical

what movie are you trying to watch?

also, go into:

Settings - System Settings - About PLAYSTATION®3 (PS3™)

...scroll down until you see the Dts-HD Master logo.

The PS3 has to be using HDMI audio and set to Linear PCM.

What receiver are you using?

I just bought the ONYKO tx-805, I tried watching xmen 3, and fantastic 4 silver surfer. I also tried setting to pcm and dts does not come up, acording to the onyko manual dts-ma needs to be output via bitstreem. I am concerned thou at not seeing the dts-ma choice under setting and system info on my ps3

The PS3 internally decodes DTS MA and outputs it as PCM. Your receiver will never show DTS MA on its display because the PS3 can't bitstream the lossless codecs.

the PS3 does not Bitstream the Lossless codecs, rather it internally decodes and sends out as Linear PCM.

Your receiver will only display "PCM".

While watching a movie, press the "display" button on the BD remote ("select" button on the game controller)...this will bring up information and show you what audio codec is being played.

Again, make sure the PS3 is on Linear PCM.

I'm trying to get DTS CD's to play on my PS3. I am having a serious problem getting this to work. The solution I keep reading about (setting my output frequency to 44.1/88.2/176.4 and unchecking 88.2 and 176.4 and leaving only 44.1) is NOT working for me. I still only get static playback. I swear these discs used to work and suddenly they don't. Has this been messed up in the recent firmware updates or something?? Someone help me!

Also, I've been reading that you have to UNcheck LPCM 48kHz. My PS3 will not allow me to do this!! The option is greyed-out. : (

I am running through optical and am set to bitstream. Does ANYONE have a solution to this issue? Even google had nothing.

Here's the relevant passage from this site:
http://www.edepot.com/playstation3.html

"dts 5.1 Music Disc (dts-CD) is supported if 44.1kHz is selected as the only output frequency, and you use an external decoder. Choosing 44.1kHz can be done via the "Music Settings" and "Sound Settings" inside the "Settings" menu of the XMB. The PS3 normally treats all CDs as unencoded Linear PCM and will just take the Linear PCM untouched from the CD and send it down the HDMI or TOSLINK, or convert to analog first before sending it down the AV Multi cable. Because the dts-CD Linear PCM on the CD is actually encoded 5.1 channels (or 6.1), you must trick the PS3 into sending the data untouched to an external dts-CD decoder via HDMI or TOSLINK (NOT the analog AV Multi). To accomplish this, you must turn off upconversion (48kHz, 88.2kHz and 176kHz must not be selected), otherwise, your signal will sound like FM noise."

Even if set correctly you still need a receiver that decodes DTS...

My receiver decodes it, I've done those steps, and I still get the noise. I don't get it.
