Always take Microsoft rumors with a grain of salt.

To me, sounds like official rumors targeted to halt sales of PS3s. "Hey everyone, don't buy a PS3 for Blu-ray movies! We might be releasing an add-on drive of our own down the road!"

It's the same line Microsoft has been using for decades to stop people from buying other company's products - promises of integrating the technologies, then never actually delivering.

But on the other hand, 360 hd-dvd drives have been on clearance many places, soon to be removed from some stores. So this might actually have a hint of truth to it.

If the BDA let's MS provide a Blu-ray player add-on for the 360, they better make sure that MS properly implements the software decoding and decryption of BD. I'm sure Hollywood doesn't want another device able to bypass the security on their HD movies.

I find it hard to believe that MS would cave this quickly...

Damn. That's cold...that's almost Blu-cold if there is truth to it.
You're putting a lot of faith in an article with no link, posted by 1st timer, who "just got an e-mail from my cousin".

This looks totally bogus.

You really expect someone from Mircosoft to voice the following opinion "Moore admitted that Microsoft's opinion on HD-DVD as the Next Generation format winner is bleak".

So all of that time M$ spent knocking BD they're finally going to implement it for the 360 (and only use it for movies). You have to be a serious richard to still dig on Sony for including a built in BD drive from the get go M$.

Would M$ actually be allowed to develop a Blu-Ray player for the 360?

I'm no expert but surely the technology used in developing Blu-Ray discs and players is patented. Wouldn't M$ need permission from whoever owns the patent in order to develop an add-on player??

I 'm just curious because if this is the case (and I'm not sure that it is) then theoretically Sony (or whoever does own the patent) could deny permission to M$ - I know I would!

Just a thought - like I said - not sure on the legal issues, just seems like it might be a viable situation.

Cheers!

I'm sure they would gladly license the Blu-ray technology to M$. There is a lot of money to be made plus they would gain a lot of potential Sony-Pictures buyers. They're all just in it for the money, yes, even Sony

It has been my experiance that MS will not give up on HDDVD so easily. I have seen them lose their shirts on products, even when they had a chance to back out they didn't. While they mostly make great products, i figgure they will go bankrupt before they support Blu-ray. LOL i wonder how Windows vista or XP will act when it discovers a blu-ray disk drive on a PC?!

Ahh, no I'm not (putting a lot of faith in the article). Please read my other posts, I question the validity of the link multiple times,...I just find it mildly entertaining.

Is there a new rejection of the latest story?

Is the story real? We see the post in a message on a site, but is it real? Can anyone find the article separately?
