Exclamation BD Java

When the BD Java is released, can/will Sony's BD BDP-1 player support it? in a upgrade or will i have to buy a new player?

Yes I was wondering the same thing. I hope it will support it or in a firmware upgrade. I can't afford to buy a new player.

All BD players incorporate BD-J (Java). If you're referring to profile support, that's a different issue:

And the number 1 most misunderstood concept in Blu-ray: ...

You're wondering about Profile 1.1 support. Not BD Java. Your player already does BD Java.

It is highly unlikely that any current stand-alone player is equipped with the secondary hardware decoder needed for PiP. The PS/3 uses a software decoder, so adding the secondary decoding is just a programming challenge.

Whether you HAVE to upgrade is up to you. You'll still be able to play all the movies that come out. Some extras (like PiP) wouldn't be available, but they aren't available now.
