Default GTA4 load times and HDD question

I dont know of many other games that have the long load time GTA does, so i have a question for all of you out there.

What screen and how long into it does you ps3 get before it starts loading the mission. Mine gets to the sceen with the red mercedez lookalike being followed by the copcar (the sceen after the 2 cops pointing guns). id say that screen stays up for 4-10 seconds, it varies, not sure why. i have the oem HDD.

Id like to know what if anyone's loads faster, and if it does if you are using 5400 vs 7200 and 8mb cache vs 16. Im using this for research for a new HDD. Thanks all.

I tried google searching, but most of the links are anchient.

My game starts at the same point too. I replaced my original 60gb with a Scorpio 160gb 5400. Not sure what my cache is though.

Thats weird, i would have thought that the ps3 version would load faster. I have the 360 version, and mine starts after the picture of the girl leaning into the car, i think its like the 3rd or 4th pic. Ive never seen the other 2 pictures you are talking about.

Its not a problem with load times. Im asking if poeople that have upgarded their HDDs either to 7200 rpm or 16 MB cache see an increase in perfomrance. Why spend on the money on a faster drive if it wont perform better, when i can just get a larger one? thats what im going after.

Really? Because I've played my cousins version on his 360 and I see all the same pics on the 360 as the PS3. You must be special or trying to sling some FUD (again). To the OP I was wondering the same thing because I have been wanting to upgrade to the 250 7800 RPM HDD and was wondering if it made any kind of a difference. According to the sony site it usually makes a 1-8 sec difference, depending on the game. I woud like to hear from someone who has experienced if there is a difference first hand though.

the loading is pretty long but I'm glad it's only at the beginning of the game...I guess it's their way of loading your saved file without having you just looking at a blank screen...They should have more pictures and randomize them so that we don't get bored at looking at the same picture....anyway...love this game and I think the loading is fine...on my oem hdd....

Why would I lie about my load times? Should i film my opening to prove it to you, some faceless guy who accuses me with nothing to go on? Also im slinging FUD again? When was the first time?

Sad day for me.... Still can't get GTAIV to work on my ps3... tried EVERYTHING! (so dont worry about giving me any possible remedies). Sony sent me an email and advised they dont know what the problem still is on a very select few consoles and this game. My manufacture date was Nov06 on a 60GB model. They at least offered to swap out the console for another 60GB, even though I'm out of the warranty period. Hopefully one day I'll be able 2 play it with ya'll. and to stay on subject, I was able 2 play my whole minute of gameplay after the red car chased by the cop scene as well. Never changed my HDD.

Mine always starts after the red car appears. It's on screen for about 1 second then it starts. Same place, same amount of time every time.

Did you download the update. Mine did the same thing until the update came out.
To OP- I put a 7200 HDD in one of my PS3 and it has the same load screen as the others with stock HDDs. I've noticed the HDD light doesn't flash the entire time it's loading on any of them.

Do you have an OEM HDD or did you upgrade, if you upgraded did you get 8 or 16 mb cache 5400/7200 rpm?

Mine's a 60gb machine with it's original HDD. Though am looking to upgrade as I'm running out of space because of all the mandatory installs I'm having to do.

Just because the game may not load any quicker doesn't mean that the drive won't perform better for other purposes such as loading pictures, videos, etc, outside of games.
