I mentioned solar as a way to generate Hydrogen using electrolysis. But we must always remember that this method uses more energy to get the Hydrogen atom then whatever energy the system gives us later on. To convert the whole country to solar is estimated to be about 25 trillion dollars. Every year the cost goes down, but being able to provide over 20% of the energy is a long ways off, even when we build the smart grid. Solar like other renewables is not 24/7. Do you have solar on your roof? Ditto for me. Do you know how much it will cost? I would like to, but it is too expensive right now. Simply using less power seem to be the best way to go right now.

Iceland will be the worlds first hydrogen economy. But they have clean geo-thermal to produce their hydrogen. And they don't have to travel far in their small island nation. The hydrogen formula works for them.

I have looked into Solar energy for the home. Estimates to run the entire house are close to 35-50K in costs. Even running half the house at half the cost is expensive - not bad - but expensive. Cloudy days - well the system can store energy so there should not be an issue.

It does need to come down in price - a lot.
