Default Movies with the worst special effects?

For me, it'd have to be the 2001 horror film produced by Brian Yuzna, Dagon. While it's a really great film, there's one scene in particular where a snake flies out of a girls mouth, and it just looked so incredibly artificial and plastic.

Ah Man I've got a few... Bare with me:

The Golden Compass: Not "bad" Special Effects, but not great, and certainly not worthy of the oscar!!!

Blade 2: Awful CG rendering!

Matrix Reloaded: Same as above + the waxy looking CG Neo pisses me off every time I see the burly brawl or whenever he's flying.

Fantastic Four: Some of the worst CG work i've ever seen. The practical stuff is no better!

Xanadu. Even in it's time, it still sucked by 80's standards.

Oh I forgot.

Most films that go through SPI (Sony Pictures Imageworks).

They're not a bad company but most of there work is downright shameful and lazy!

Spider-Man 2 and Superman Returns are two shining lights in the dirt that come to mind. Neither have perfect VFX all the way thorugh, but for the most part they contain some of their best work.

If anybody knows of any other SPI work that was good please correct me on my statement!

I am gonna go with ULTRAVIOLET, the special effects (if you can call them that) were part of the reason the movie was so very horrible. Also I AM LEGEND, this was a big time movie with a huge budget and the monsters in it looked so fake, I liked the movie but the CGI was dissapointing to say the least.

I would have to say Army of Darkness.

Remember the scene when he is getting dropped out of the time warp in the beginning of the movie and you see the ground he is about to land on?

If you look close enough those are cusioned mats.

I do realize that the special effects were meant to look cheesy and this is one of my favorite movies of all times, but needless to say the effects are horrible, lol!

Yeah the Monsters in I Am Legend looked awful. Again that's an SPI film I believe.

It's the same complaint I've got with Matrix 2 & 3. Waxy looking CG just isn't convincing!

Recently: Hands down I Am Legend. The CGI was simply atrocious and kind of insulting to the whole audience who had to witness such a horrible sight on a blockbuster.

The biggest CGI blurp of all time? Goes to the Matrix 2..
The Matrix 2 had really horrible CGI scene when Neo is fighting copies of that one guy.. and even Neo is fully CGI for much of the fight and the movie suddenly looks like Toy Story! Hah.. oh man. I don't even know what to say thinking about that scene. It is like half live action half Animatrix.

I agree on I Am Legend. Some of those ghost things look like they could've been deleted scenes from Poltergeist. Yet it still goes on to gross 583 million dollars worldwide. Just atrocious.

I agree. Part 1 had amazing CGI. Not sure what went wrong. They tried to do too much. I am Legend was extremely disappointing. Spidey 2 and 3 were bad too.

The SFX in Army of Darkness were horrible but that was intentional. In one of the scenes you can clearly see a suspension cable holding him up. There is no way they missed that, I believe it was left in on purpose.

Exorcist: The Beginning, the effects were like something off of Charmed! +1 on I am legend, good movie/bad CG.

I happen to like that movie. But I agree, the CGI ship didn't always match the model. But this was 1984, on the heels of TRON (1982). In those days, any CGI looked like it came from a computer no matter how realistic it appeared. In the case of the TRON movie it worked. But for The Last Star Fighter, it was out of its element.

The graphics used in the arcade video game wasn't even possible at the time, so it was rendered in. Back then you looked in awe and wished you could play THAT game. Same with "Space Paranoids" in TRON. It's all too common today.

Get a recreation of "Space Paranoids" here.

You guys need to watch more Sci Fi Channel originals if I am Legend and The Matrix movies are the most common responses here. Anything from the current Maneater series would be my vote (Croc, Eye Of The Beast, Ice Spiders, etc.) or last year's Fire Serpent. Now those are some bad effects. Even the practicals are atrocious, and not in a campy, intentional kind of way.

the sci-fi ones are bad. I cant remember the name of the movie with the killer ants but they looked like clay models. My mom bought hammerhead which is a sci-fi original and wow did it suck.

Agreed...just watched Heatwave, or Heatstroke, or something...starred Danica McKellar (taking whatever work she can get, obviously!).....and the 'aliens' were quite the hoot as a CGI rendering.

That said, isn't that the 'charm' of the sci-fi movies?

CGI still hasn't been able to create realistic humans.

No, that is part of it, I just dont think it's intentional.

Winnie Cooper really has popped up ini some odd things as of late, agreed.
