It's amazing to me how the effects in the original Star Wars trilogy still hold up incredibly well even today (imo), but others, such as The Last Starfighter...maybe not so much (but they were great for their time

Just to name a few....
Great Effects: Speed Racer Jurassic Park Underworld Hellboy Matrix POTC: COTBP Iron Man Transformers Not so Great Special Effects: (I still enjoy all of these movies) Indy (Temple of Doom) - When the planes crashes into the mountain at the end Underworld 3 -- Overall could've done better |

nothing specific but what annoys me is when recent cgi can't hold a candle to old school Jurassic Park or T2 cgi.
even the jurassic park sequels didn't look as cool as the original. goes to show that time and dedication will always triumph over newer tech. new cgi looks lazy at times. |

I'm not sure I understand the fascination with OT Star Wars. Just watched original trilogy this weekend, it was on SPIKE HD.
Pretty lame and outdated by today's standards. Lightsabers, blaster shots, aliens, all too fake. May be it was superb back in 1977 but CGI in SW prequels was definitely better. Oh, and T2 SFX were groundbreaking back then and are still very good today. |
