Default The BEST/WORST Special Effects in Movies...Your Vote?

It's amazing to me how the effects in the original Star Wars trilogy still hold up incredibly well even today (imo), but others, such as The Last Starfighter...maybe not so much (but they were great for their time ). In addition--for me--many of the sets in the Star Wars prequels, while beautifully designed and rendered, screamed fake and took me out of experience.

What movies have you seen where the effects really added (or detracted) from your viewing experience?

What I find amazing is the effects from the first three films are still far superior to the lame CGI crap of the later abominations.

Yes of course because we had an amazing shot like the opening one of Episode 3 in the originals of course with Coruscant below and the space battle going on all over the screen

Just to name a few....

Great Effects:

Speed Racer
Jurassic Park
Underworld
Hellboy
Matrix
POTC: COTBP
Iron Man
Transformers

Not so Great Special Effects: (I still enjoy all of these movies)

Indy (Temple of Doom) - When the planes crashes into the mountain at the end
Underworld 3 -- Overall could've done better

The second Mummy movie at the end when The Rock is a scorpion. That was big WTF. That looked like a 3 year old did that.

Yes, that one is truly horrible, a bunch of highschool kids with their laptop could have done a better job then that.

"Poltergeist"
(1982) Netflix writes...A high-voltage spectacle boasting impressive (for the time) special effects. Sounds about right,

The Mummy did a good job in all the movies (i've only seen the first 2) and then, at the end... it was indeed

nothing specific but what annoys me is when recent cgi can't hold a candle to old school Jurassic Park or T2 cgi.

even the jurassic park sequels didn't look as cool as the original. goes to show that time and dedication will always triumph over newer tech. new cgi looks lazy at times.

I'm not sure I understand the fascination with OT Star Wars. Just watched original trilogy this weekend, it was on SPIKE HD.
Pretty lame and outdated by today's standards. Lightsabers, blaster shots, aliens, all too fake. May be it was superb back in 1977 but CGI in SW prequels was definitely better.

Oh, and T2 SFX were groundbreaking back then and are still very good today.
