I am 99% sure that the setup will work for loseless audio, but can somebody who knows a little bit more about receivers please confirm that the Yamaha RXV-1600 (http://www.yamaha.ca/av/Receivers/RXV1600B.jsp) will be able to accept loseless audio from the PS3 via HDMI?
I think I have settled on this receiver because of the power and quality of sound. I am getting this second hand for pretty cheap. THANKS!!! |

according to the user manual pg.108
Multi-ch Linear PCM: 5.1 ch, 32-96 kHz,16/20/24 bit ...you should have no problems with the PS3. ![]() |

I'm also looking at the yamaha htr-6080, used and for a great price.
It says that it supports Multi-ch Linear PCM: 8 ch, 32-96 kHz,16/20/24 bit. Does this mean this it supports full 7.1 over hdmi from the ps3? (pretty sure it does, but i want to be 100% sure) |

The RX-V1600 will only do 5.1 PCM via HDMI, but can do 7.1 via analog inputs, and you can apply the PLIIx decoder to get 7.1. Also that receiver won't pass 1080p. So between no 1080p, and no 7.1 PCM via HDMI, I decided to upgrade to the RX-V1800. But for about $400 you can get the brand new RX-V663 that can do all the above.

Looks like I'm gonna pick up the htr-6080 today. Getting a great deal on it.
The only thing I'm not sure that it can do is pass 1080p @ 24Hz. On the website, it says that it supports 1080p @ 60Hz, with no mention of 24Hz. It is HDMI v1.2a. Information on this is a bit scarce, so I'm crossing my fingers ![]() |

Thanks for the reply Lucy Diamond.
The only thing is, there is probably about $1000 difference, since I am in Canada ![]() The equivalent to the 1800 is going for about $1500 bucks in Canada. I can get the htr-6080 for $425 cash brand new and sealed. The htr-6180 (equivalent to RX-V863) goes for $900+tax in stores here, while the htr-6160(equivalent to RX-V663) goes for about $600+tax. So, while you do make a great point from a US perspective, it doesn't (unfortunately) apply to my situation |
