Took me forever, but I finally finished the book. Holy crap was it bad! And I liked both the novel and movie adaptation of Divergent, so I'm no hater. Is there any word yet on if the movie of Insurgent will attempt to be faithful to the source material? I sincerely hope not, cuz otherwise it may kill this franchise before Allegiant ever gets made. To make matters worse, Hackiva Goldsman is co-writing the screenplay.

I liked this book. It has one of the best cliffhanger endings I read in a long time.

I did not mind Allegiant jumping back and forth between Tris and Four's points of view, but there was a lot of exposition and people wandering around hallways, kinda like the first half of Mockingjay (the book).

It was an ok cliffhanger. I figure I'll read Allegiant so I can find out what happens, but Insurgent was just dreadful. 3/4 of the book was either Tris moping about over Will's death or arguing with Tobias(Four). BTW, with regard to the former storyline, it'll have a lot less meaning in the film adaptation since the movie version of Divergent omitted the romance between Will and Christina.

There's very little actual story. And several characters from the first book are brought back for what amounts to nothing more than meaningless cameos. And don't get me started on the plotholes or the ridiculous actions taken by some of the characters(Peter's about 2/3 of the way through the book is probably the most laughable).

I sincerely hope the filmmakers told Veronica Roth to go kiss off and did some heavy rewriting on this before they began shooting. Making a faithful adaptation is just begging for trouble.

The movie adaptation of Divergent made some major changes (for the better), so I imagine the sequels will as well.

By the way, the movie showed Christina and Will getting chummy.

The biggest change in the movie was adding Kate Winslet to the showdown at the end. At the time I thought it was a bad decision since I figured Tris and/or Tobias would wind up confronting her at some point in the sequels and putting her in that scene would make the subsequent face-off seem redundant. Without going into spoilers, let's just say things didn't play out quite the way I anticipated(and I don't mean that as a good thing).

As for Will and Christina, when did they get chummy in the movie version of Divergent? Maybe in the background, but they never explicitly showed them in a romantic relationship. I haven't watched the deleted scenes yet on the Blu-ray, but I read that they did film that stuff and then cut it out. Also a big mistake IMO.

There are several shots of Christina and Will becoming closer and closer as the movie progresses.

What happens across Insurgent and Allegiant drastically expands the story beyond just Chicago.
[Show spoiler]Indeed, we find out that Kate Winslet's character was in far less control than it appears.
Moreover, the "villains" change from book to book. I enjoyed this aspect as Veronica Roth kept readers guessing.

This isn't like Harry Potter or The Hunger Games, where there's one "big bad" the whole way through.

First movie was very boring. Never even finished the final 30 minutes.

Is the second book better?

Shailene Woodley is quite a babe and an under-rated actress but through no fault of her own Divergent was not that good.

You say my name? I'm like Beetlejuice or Candyman. Except I only need to hear my name once.

I thought Divergent was good. I mean no Hunger games, but movie movie is? I'll check out the sequel for Divergent.
