Default Will DVD with HD movie play in Blu-Ray?

Hi -

If I were to record a short 5 min. HD movie onto a standard DVD (Mpeg 2? .mov?), would it play in High Definition on a Blu-Ray player?

Am I missing something here??

Thanks!

Not in .mov I believe. I do know you can with the right tailoring software though.

You can but it has to be in a format that the specific player can recognize.

You can burn it as AVCHD, which is a HD-format for camcorders. But that would mean you have to re-encode the movie in AVC format. Do your research on that.

If you have a PS3 or other computers with BD-ROM drives, you can burn the movie as a file without re-encoding. Note that PS3 has its own quirk over what are acceptable AVC/VC-1/MPEG2/.TS/.PS files.

I just tried that a few days ago. With a five minute recording from a Canon HV20, downloaded into Mac iMovie, created a quicktime file that was 3.9 gb and burned to a dvd+rw disk from iMovie, and it worked fine. I need to check some setup so that I can be sure it was the widescreen hd format, but it looks pretty good.

if you own a PS3, just download a PS3 Video Converter...it will change it for you..
