the only thing bad about DLPs is that they're thick. the people bashing them are probably the same group who still defend xbox 360. lcds are just now catching up to dlps 120 hz refresh rate. i had friends who would ***** about my tv until they wanted to watch football, then its "on my tv there's little blocks around the people when they move, it looks funny". dlp is the technology prodominantly used at digital movie theaters as, though in projector form. all you need is enough room, which isn't hard dlps are still thinner than most entertainment center furniture. its like the mustang, muscle car guys love to bash mustangs, doesn't mean they aren't beautiful.

hmm, i own 2 b/c i really have no need for a lcd or plasma. i'm not hanging it on the wall and it would look funny inside my huge ikea enterainment center. but most importantly, i saved hundreds and hundreds of dollars for a pretty damn good tv compared to what i would have spent for lcd of plasma for a 56.

i got the most bang for my buck by buying a samsung 56" dlp in 2006. oh, one other thing, i forgot to mention, the 1080p feed from my ps3 is disgustingly amazing

I have a 61" Samsung DLP 1080i TV.

It is, IMO an excellent TV, with superb quality PQ from Blu-ray discs.

I have had it since 2006, and will sooner or later upgrade to a 1080p set, possibly a Plasma, now that they are releasing sets with full 1080p specs.

When the price is right I will upgrade, possibly in about two more years, but until then my DLP set will do just fine.

DLPs are overall pretty good sets. They can come in big sizes. The have pretty solid pictures. They are capable on handling a 1080/24 picture. They have good contrasts and better refresh rates than LCDs. Their price tags are easily better than a plasma or LCD at the same size. With the new LED bulb technology, they will have a long life before they die.

I like the fact that DLPs are a little thicker. I keep my Sammy in the middle of the room, and i'm much less concerned with it falling over if someone does bump into it, but then again how many people put a TV in the middle of the room right?

I love my LED DLP, I Love My 360, and Loved the 2 mustangs I had. hmmm guess I qualify for some quality Bashing Material.

On my 2nd DLP (upgraded from a 52" Toshiba to a 61" Samsung) and I love them... You can't beat the price considering the sizes they make DLPs in... And the depth is really no issue at all because mine is about 16" deep, and I believe you can get them as small as 10"...

I hesitated to vote for them as perfect because of bulb replacement, but seeing how much cheaper they are compared to Plasma in the 60"+ size it's not an issue...

I bought my 56" Samsung DLP right after I graduated college and bought my new house because it was the best TV I could afford at the time. I still think it's a good TV, but it's not as good as my 120 hz LCD and I just bought a 50" plasma to replace it. I have been happy with it overall though and I'm still going to use it quite a bit in my basement.

The main problem i find with them are their viewing angles are limited. If you sit to the side, you definately will see a decrease in visuals...

while your statement is absolutely true....for my living room the sofas are directly in front of the tv, thus there isn't a bad seat in the house for viewing blu-rays.

My biggest problem with DLPs is viewing angles. I have one sofa that is to the side. Also, I don't know if it's just me. But, whenever I look at DLPs it seems like it is brighter in the center and gets dimmer to the edges and is very annoying to me. Other than those to things I think their price to size ratio is awesome.

I've had my 61" Samsung LED DLP HDTV for almost a year and I freakin' love it! The display is awesome, the colors are crisp and bright, the blacks are dark and everyone who sees it is simply shocked at how good high def cable channels look, not to mention full 1080p Blu-Rays.

Ditto, except i have the 56 inch. Best TV i have ever owned. Samsungs seem to be the model of choice, very popular indeed.

yes, this is what it looks like on mine as well when you sit to the side. Luckily, usually there is no need to sit to the side in my case.

I love my DLP. Picture is sharp and clear.

I can understand the complaints about viewing angle, but why would somoene spend so much on a HDTV and want to look at it from an angle?

To quote Joey from "Friends"...

"What's all your furnature pointed at?"

hahaha, not all setups allow you to be directly in front of your tv....

I've had my Samsung HLN since '03. The only issue that i've had with it was a whining color wheel which was replaced under warranty. SD pictures thru the cable box can look pretty bad but that is not because it is a DLP. I knew i'd be moving a few more times so I actually took weight into consideration. At 67lbs for a 43" is not bad at all. Additionally the TV is 16" deep so I could still use my old 36" entertainment stand with it. According to the manual, the TV has a 150 degree viewing range......horizontally. The thing is, on occasion I still like to sit on the floor and watch TV. Well if I get too close, major ghosting appears. Overall it's still a great performing tv. I have over 8000 hours on my old bulb and still going strong.

When it's time to upgrade, i'll probably stick with a DLP.
