Default Just Bought an ONKYO TX-SR606

And I was wondering if there was any way of running a HDMI cable from my cable television box which does not have a HDMI output into the amp.
What I was looking for was a scart to HDMI cable or something.

Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

The reason I would like to do this for those who don't already know is that the ONKYO TX-SR606 will upscale any source through it's HDMI inputs. And I would like to watch my TV upscaled.

Thanks all.

There is a way to convert SCART to HDMI, however, I'm sure you're not willing to pay for it. You might as well go out and buy an HD Ti-Vo for the price.

You won't need any scart-to-HDMI cable, you just connect your cable TV box with Onkyo using ANY cable (component, S-Video, composite; plus an appropriate audio cable) and then connect Onkyo with the receiver using an HDMI cable. Then set up your Onkyo appropriately (there's a function called something like 'HDMI monitor', set it to 'on') - that's it.

And that will upscale it still?...

I only have Scart outputs on my cable box though?...

Yeah, It wasn't really a choice, I just got what I was given to me by my cable provider YEARS ago.

I wonder if I could buy another box and use that instead?...I don't know if changing boxes would still work with my normal package.

I would probably need a HD box to get one with a HDMI output.

Nothing against cable but have you thought about going with Directv?
They have over 130 HD channels available and it cost less.

I don't pay for my cable, they give it to me free because I have the phone off of them.
I don't really watch TV, normally it's just Blu rays. I was just curious as to how much better the ONKYO would make the picture of regular digital TV.

Thanks for the suggestion anyway though.

Cable box/606
S-Video or RCA from Cable box to 606 then HDMi to display , you then can upscale to 1080i

Blu-ray/606
606 HDMi to dispaly and blu-ray player to 606 RCA L/R .

ouch...Time for cable box upgrade hank.
Your cable provider should upgrade you for free or charge you rental.Cox cable for instance charges 4 dollars a month

I am under the assumption that most of the time you do not OWN your cable box. It is on loan from the cable company at the least if you are not paying a monthly fee for the box. Some times the first box is free and each additional box has a monthly charge. Heck, here they even charge for extra remotes.

Point is, if you want an upgrade, you just have to ask for one. Unless an upgrade is required, the cable company is not going to make you switch boxes. But if you ask for one, they will most likely give you one. Especially if the case is that they own the box still and it is just on loan to you because you have their service. When you get the upgrade, you can make sure it has the connection you want.

Or just get the SCART-Component cable crackinhedz suggested.

hey I just learned about SCART connections myself the other day because someone requested SCART description in the Sticky: Home Theater Connections (Explained) thread.

...and stumbled across SCART-Component cables.

In order to turn a RGB signal into an actual component signal I would have to buy a RGB to Component converter rather than just a lead with a SCART on one end and a 3 RCA's on the other though wouldn't I?...

...video is output from cable box via SCART correct?

the SCART-Component cable makes the conversion for you, and connect the component end into the receiver.
