Disney's Name To Appear Over Unrated Film

Only days after renaming its home video division to Disney Home Entertainment, the Walt Disney Co. announced Tuesday that it intends to release Badder Santa: The Unrated Version on November 20 in HD DVD and Blu-ray. In the past, Disney has gone to great lengths to make sure that the Disney name did not appear above any releases that did not reflect the wholesome, family-oriented viewpoint of the company's founder. However, the 2003 Billy Bob Thornton movie inarguably contains the raunchiest language ever delivered in a Christmas movie, and the "unrated" version includes deleted scenes that magnifies the scatological nature of the film. The film, released in high-definition formats at Christmas time may also confuse parents who see the names "Disney" and "Santa" on the cover of the packaging, along with the name of the film's co-star, the late John Ritter.

I'm sure some HD-DUD fanbois will run with this as proof that Disney is going neutral (without reading Disney's original annoucement which of course makes no mention of HD-DUD). No thanks to news service Wenn and imdb.com for the cock up.

Default Disney title being released both formats?

I just read this at IMDB.com and I'm hoping it is just an error.

Only days after renaming its home video division to Disney Home Entertainment, the Walt Disney Co. announced Tuesday that it intends to release Badder Santa: The Unrated Version on November 20 in HD DVD and Blu-ray.

Does anybody know anything about this?

It's a mistake.

Edit: I guess I should add more information to that. Disney owns all Dimension titles BEFORE Sept. 30, 2005. Badder Santa was made in 2003. Disney is exclusive to Blu-ray and they have just made a statement that they are staying that way. Therefore, this title should be for Blu-ray only.

It's definitely not true. BD only. Disney is not becoming neutral, although some HD-DVD zealots have already run to the moon with this saying otherwise, like you'd expect.

That is what I want to hear. Disney is putting out a lot of our strongest releases.

Never believe something until you see an offical press release from the first party that's in question. In this case: Disney, who recently reinforced their commitment and confidence in the Blu-Ray format. They're not going anywhere.

^^ Look through that. That's the most current take on the whole subject, last I checked.

Disney is not going neutral and never will. They're "BD 4 Life."

IMDB gets alot of their info from fans and they tend to make alot of mistakes...

I wouldn't be shocked if someone sent them an email saying it will be available on blu-ray and they figured that it would be on HD DVD...because "why not?"....

Thanks Knub!

It's obviously a mistake (ain't no way the Mouse House is crossing over to the dark side), but I do wish that Wenn (the news service) could read a press release properly. HD-DUD fans thrive on this kind of fuzzy speculation, which more often than not then turns to fud.

what doesn't make sense is why disney would make their hd dvd debut with badder santa. if they were going neutral and this was their coming out party, it would have been pirates or narnia, or something better.. kind of like universal going neutral by saying your getting the Nutty Professor II.

However, Disney today informed us that both reports are erroneous, and that neither 'Lost' nor 'Badder Santa' are currently planned for high-def release. They also reiterated that they are Blu-ray exclusive, and have no plans to support HD DVD at this time (a recent IMDB report suggested otherwise).
Ah, not never. And they just dismissed Lost on BD, which clearly means they are waiting to release that on BOTH formats.

Yick on the news there, I really wish Disney would have kept to distancing the Disney name from the Miramax files etc . Oh well.

It's amazing how much a person can glean from two or three words, isn't it?
