Received Sony Vegas 8 Platinum + DVD today but not installed yet. Doesn't
look like it will burn Blu-ray - true? Does Sony have Blu-ray burning sw?

I'll want to do this when the prices of the drives and blanks come down some.

Sony Vegas Pro 8 burns Blu Ray but only directly from the timeline (No menus etc). The DVD authoring software will not do it, though someone mentioned earlier on this site, the next version of that software will do it.

I have Adobe Encore CS3 which came with the Adobe CS3 Master Collection. I haven't tried it yet, though I am going to try to burn Blu Ray to a standard DVD since I don't have a BD drive yet.

From the press release:

"DVD Architect 5 software enables independent producers and videographers to author both a standard definition DVD or a high definition Blu-ray Disc complete with full motion buttons, motion menus, scene selection menus, subtitles and alternate video and audio tracks. The clean, drag-and-drop DVD Architect interface, powerful layout and authoring tools work seamlessly with the Sony Vegas Pro video editing and production software, making it easy to develop dynamic menu-based DVDs, movies, picture slideshows and music compilations. Shipping in mid-June, DVD Architect 5 software will be available as a free downloadable upgrade to all registered Vegas Pro 8 users, as the Vegas Pro software ships bundled with the DVD Architect application."

Depends on what you are wanting to burn? If you want to author a bluray disc then there are a few options. As mentioned in previous post, you have Nero, Vegas, Premiere CS3... you also have DVDit Pro HD, Movie Factory and Cyberlink...

How much is it for a blank blu-ray? Ive only seen them at future shop for $20 each. Do you think they'll ever fall to the level of DVD blanks?

Default Sony & Blu-ray

Just got the answer to my question early this morning:

Vegas Platinum 9 and Platinum 9 Pro Pak, both due out in August, will be able to author Blu-ray disks, and the prices are low.

Amazon is apparently willing to refund for the Platinum 8, and I'll re-order.

monoprice.com ships to Canada for a ridiculously low amount, to Windsor (where I live) it's less than $3.

Now if they'd sell a DL re-writable BD I'd be all over that!!!
