Default With the increasing quality of DVDs, is it possible Blu-Ray may not flourish?

What would happen to high def media?

increasing quality???? i don't know what you are talking about.

the very best DVD I have ever seen in terms of quality is Star Wars Episode 3: Revenge of the Sith and that came out nearly 3 years ago.

DVDs look heavily compressed, blurry, sound heavily compressed and don't have the features that blu-ray has. that isn't going to change.

Increasing quality? DTS is kind of gone, they've started compressing 2 and a half hour long movies to fit 3.5gb (less than a single layered disc) and you're saying the quality is increasing? Where's your source?

Have you seen the quality of the new 4 dollar racks at Walmart. The quality of movie has improved their and Im sure the studios arent happy. To me it just seems like the begginng of the slow phase out of DVD. Hi Def media should be just fine.

DVD is low bitrate MPEG-2.

People can't have it both ways. We have plenty of people who have an aneurism whenever a BD is released in MPEG-2. How can it possibly be substandard and some low bitrate QHD be BD's near equal?

Certainly if studios insist (like Warner) in sabotaging their masters and killing temporal resolution there is going to be some problems. But, a REAL HD presentation will always obliterate DVD on a display that is setup for true HD presentation.

And, in the end, the bells and whistles that some people seem to be so concerned about (why else would then condemn profile 1.0/1.1 players?) are going to be no contest comparing DVD with BD.
