I just don't see a point in creating an expensive movie and not profit from it. There's no doubt in my mind most movies come up short of their budget and lose money.

Well, both Iron man and Incredible Hulk have both made nearly $500 million domestically and nearly $800 million worldwide. As others has indicated, the DVD/Blu ray, cable and tv broadcast will probably net over them well over $1 billion.

People will pay their hard earned money as long as there is something out there interesting enough to entertain them. Also more A-list actors appear to be interested in being in these kind of movies.
