Default Help! $600 to spend!

Currently, I have a PS3 hooked up to my HDTV with optical audio going to my Sony HT-DDW900 home theater system. My speakers are rated at 6 ohms. I could go with an Onkyo or Yamaha Receiver (looking at the RX-V863.....have seen some internet deals) and keep the speakers??

Or should I try to get a Onkyo or Yamaha box set that come with speakers?? I'm thinking that maybe if I just get a nicer receiver, the speakers will sound better.....I could get a new set of speakers some time next year?

I believe most people will agree with me when I say this, do not buy a HTIB system. Your best bet is to either buy a new receiver and eventually get nicer speakers, or to buy new speakers and eventually get a new receiver. To be honest however, either route you go you might not be happy with the results because you would either be running ok speakers through a nice receiver or decent speakers through a not so good receiver. Unfortunately speakers that are decent are expensive. I would wait until you have enough money where you can go out and kill two birds with one stone, so that way it is considerably better and you don't feel like you have wasted money. Good Luck.

I agree. Don't buy an 8ohm receiver and hook up 6ohm speakers. You'll find the speakers WAY too easy to blow if some clown cranks the sound up a but. Get some 8ohm bookshelf speakers at LEAST with a good sub and 8ohm receiver. Stay away from those HTIB deals. They're cheap for a reson.

The new Onkyo's are 6ohm stable so you can use your old speakers with the onkyo reciever.

No......the speakers are low end Sony. It looks like my best bet is to get a decent receiver and then some new speakers next year. Are you happy with the RX-V663 having only 2 HDMI inputs??? I would like to get something a little more "future proof."

If you are going to go the new receiver route, check out Pioneer VSX1018 or something like that. You can get a great deal. 3 hdmis. 130 watts per channel. The latest decoding. Might be your best bet.

That is the problem. People think that when we are in a recession we shouldn't spend our money when in fact that is a misnomer. Go spend your money. Boost the economy.
