It sounds like there's not one iota of editing or preparation.

If I were producing these, I'd do one run-through of the film, review the best parts and suggest improvements and then on a separate day, have them do it again. Then, on top of that, I'd edit out completely irrelevant or redundant comments, incomplete sentences and move the commentary around so it's relevant to what we're seeing, etc. And/or, I'd include a knowledgable "host" to guide the conversation and ask the right questions if the participants aren't disciplined enough to not ramble.

I'd also mix them differently. There's different approaches one could take, but I'd probably send the primary audio to the rear and send the commentary to front center. Or I'd spread the primary audio to left front and right, including the dialogue and mix the commentary to the center. I'd also raise back the levels of the soundtrack in the pauses between commentary statements.
No offense but that sounds awful. The off the cuff unrehearsed nature of commentaries is what I love most about commentaries. They are supposed to be relaxed and loose. The director and or cast and crew setting down and having a good time while shootig the shit and giving the viewer some behind the scenes info and insights. Over producing them and rehearsing them would make for one boring ass commentary.

Oh my...

I thought Jaime redeemed himself in season 3. Started to like him when with Brienne.

Woops, sorry. I worded my post badly. I meant the actual disc menu of the Blu-ray, not the intro music.

For example, Season 1's disc menu music was a shortened rendition of "The King's Arrival."

This seems spoilerish. I don't think it's confirmed anywhere (that I know of) and I believe it's speculation but for those who have never heard of this theory it could be a letdown.

Yep.

The rare commentaries that are edited and produced to be more informative are usually terrible. Commentary is supposed to feel like you're watching the film with the creative team.

IMO it's less that he redeemed himself, and more that we begin to understand and empathize with him.

Jaime's a great character, but he's equal parts charismatic hero and terrifying monster. That's what makes him so fascinating.

He has weird sexual desires, but once you're past that he's a pretty likable character, honestly. That's how I see it at least. I like the guy who plays him.

Aside from raping his own sister, he's a pretty good guy.

That scene is not meant to depict rape. You can say it does if you want, and I think there's validity there, but it was accidental. As confirmed by the writers and director it was meant to show consensual sex she was reluctant to have but gave in to.

Oh, I agree about his likability. He's charismatic, heroic, and loving - particularly towards his brother.

But he's also the guy who's in love with his sister, pushed a kid out a window, killed his cousin, forced himself on his sister next to his son's dead body, etc.

Only in Game of Thrones could you have such dichotomy. Lol

Sadly I don't think we will get them until 4-5 days after release day. I'd love to be proven wrong and get my Tyrell set on the 17th.

That depends on what interview you read. The Inside the Episode featurette clearly indicates it's a forceful attack (from the mouth of David and Dan).

Methinks they did some backtracking in light of the controversy.

It was written like it was in the book, but Alex Graves messed up and cut the scene off before she reciprocates.

Weird, all I know is the comments I read after the episode aired where the director especially made it clear he didn't intent for it to be rape. Wouldn't surprise me if they tried to pretend otherwise though so they didn't look incompetent.

Though I do think she indicates her willingness by the end of that scene, personally.

I really don't see how her supposedly "starting to like it" (ugh) would make it any less of an attack.

You're right...she was clearly asking for it.
