It's mostly a few lines of dialogue and some character moments. I personally really like
[Show spoiler]the scene where we learn that one of the crewmen in engineering is Scotty's nephew (which explains his reaction when said crewman dies after the first encounter with Khan)
. But the rest is mostly a few added lines and some alternate takes.

Do we know if this is the ABC TV cut or new Directors cut from Meyer?

Here are the differences between the Theatrical Cut and Director's Edition.
http://www.movie-censorship.com/report.php?ID=828

The cover artwork is very mediocre and the spine doesn't even use the correct font or typeface used for the film. Why not the Bob Peak poster or the other one? I don't care about any revisionist bullsh*t, especially with the mediocre Mondo-style idiotic poster.

Not bad content but I'm wishing for 4K remasters with all various official cuts and features for the 9 remaining TOS and TNG films.

The two above should've been used for the front cover artwork. Preferrably Bob Peak's.

Wasn't he a wet-behind-the-ears guy on his first mission out of cadet school, too? I don't think that change made from the additional scene is really necessary for Scotty to react that way. He can just be upset a promising spunky youngster he'd grown fond of got done in so quickly as a result of something that started back before he'd been born.

So this new cover will look horrible with a blue case but for a 4k uhd black case it will still look....horrible but not as much so...maybe.

I'm tempted to print out a sticker to overlay that crap cover. Just the framing window though. Hell, I hope this doesn't have a slipcover since if it uses that crap Mondo-style poster, I'd rather have custom cover art from Nissen using the poster artwork I posted above. As an A and B option.
Is Paramount attempting to copy Scream/Shout? It's pathetic.

Since it carries over the commentaries I am just going to put this in the lovely hard box collection anyway. That old disc will go in this one's case and then into the drawer.

Nice! As soon as it's available for store pickup, that's where I'm getting it then.

The theatrical cut is better in every way. I agree with all the cuts made prior to the films original release. The worst addition is that "He's my son" moment with Kirk and Spock. They step on the James Horner cue just to shoehorn that line in. To me it's almost as bad as the Vader "Bring my Shuttle" sequence from Empire that obliterates the great John Williams music and flow in the climax of the special edition.

Well, the steelbook that came out last May was available in stores (in limited quantities), so I can't imagine this not being available too. Of course, that was a Best Buy exclusive and this isn't, but they seem to always carry Star Trek discs, at least the several stores that are in my general area have.

Actually what they did in the 2002 version is repeat a few bars of Horner's cue to make it less awkward. Still doesn't work IMHO.

"The Wrath of Khan" is the first movie ever to receive two 4k scans.
The old Blu-ray is based on a 4k restoration too (maybe finished in 2k, don't know).
Can't wait to see how different they are (probably the colors).

They were? Spider Man 1 & 2, Men in Black 1, etc. were 2k scans I think. And later they scanned them in 4k for the new Mastered in 4k Blu-rays.
