Anyway, some DNR can be used effectively. Yes, Aliens has some de-graining done, and it panned out great. The problem with Predator UHE and some other titles like Star Trek VI is they badly abuse DNR and the result looks like a waxy mess.

My TV settings are fine. Every other movie looks great on it. Personally I think the 2008 Bluray is one of the worst I have ever seen

And I agree...UHE edition sometimes looks like wax. Some scenes are absolutly horrible! I only wish they could do a better job with it, just like the ALIENS bluray. Alittle better contrast, better colours and a fine level of grain. That`s all.

A thin layer of natural filmgrain is fine. I have nothing against it. It looks textured and great. A movie like Ironman got grain, but it is a fine layer of it. No problem. Predator is jampacked with heavy grain texture. It is distracting to watch. On an old boxtv with 480p resolution the quality was so bad we didn`t notice the grain. But now on 1080p/2160p screens it is very noticable. Again...UHE edition is too much DNR`d, but I think it looks alittle better than the 2008 version bluray.

Then you need to stick to video.

Grain is a natural part of film and Predator is a very grainy film. Even a high quality restoration/remaster will be really grainy if the technicians choose to leave the grain alone.

Also the UHE is not better than the 2008 BD. It's one of the worst BD's out there for picture quality. A textbook example of how not to do it.

I just picked up the 2008 version for 4 bucks. So, I have it and the Triple feature Predator pack. A win win I guess.

I wish that one of these releases had the DVD cover art though.

I also have the 2008 BD of Predator and thanks to this thread for reminding me about Predator 2 - I think I'm going to watch that one tonight. I have the UK version of that one.

I didn't find the grain to be all that distracting, but Predator simply is not a beautiful movie. It never has been.

Let's hope so. I'm still waiting for a remaster (done right) for this classic movie. The 2008 release is ok, but can be much better.

I found for $7.88 at Walmart a 2 disc blu ray set of the first and second Predator. Which version is the Predator on this set? 2008 release or Ultimate DNR?
