I recently saw Pan's Labyrinth (PS3) on a LG 37" HD Ready (768) television and was stunned at there being no de-interlace flicker. I pointed this out to a friend and he said "it's because the transfer is VC-1. AVC will give you the 1080p-to-1080i flicker."
He went further to say that the majority of VC-1 transfers are from HD DVD masters, but i pointed this out as not being the case as Pan's Labyrinth and The Nightre Before Xmas were all mastered for Blu Ray only. Which leads me to the question of how Codecs for Blu Ray are chosen. What makes a studio choose Mpeg2, AVC or VC-1? Your thoughts... |
