Would be cool if they used Cable instead of Professor X in this film.

In a surprise announcement just moments ago, the studio confirmed release dates for New Mutants, which will bow on*April 13, 2018, followed by*Deadpool 2 on June 1, 2018, and finally, ending the year with, the now-official*X-Men: Dark Phoenix on*November 2, 2018.

Looking ahead to the competition, Josh Boone's*New Mutants, which is set to begin production next month, will open against an Untitled Universal Classic Monsters Movie and will also likely face some heat from Walt Disney Pictures' A Wrinkle in Time, which opens the week prior and Warner Bros.' Dwayne Johnson-led*Rampage, which debuts the following weekend.

Wait, what year is this film suppose to take place in? Because you already got the 90s setting X-Men film coming out later that same year. And setting it in modern day doesn't make sense either because you got James McAvoy coming back as well.

3 X-universe films in a year is too many.

I don't care if there's too many X-Men films in 2018. X-Men is the only comic book franchise I'm invested in right now. Because the MCU films are too formulaic and DCEU needs to get their shit together. Funny how we all crapped on Fox all those years ago, but they are the only studio that's doing their own thing and not try to copy the "cinematic universe" formula.

They're doing nearly the exact same thing though. They're all sequels within one franchise. So how is what fox is doing any different? Other than they can't do continuity for shit?

If they could ever figure out F4 then you know damn well they'd be trying to create a universe with that and X-Men haha

No. They are not doing the exact same thing. Each X-Men-related film feel stylistically and tonely different from each other. Where as the MCU films are just episodes leading up to the season finale.

Fantastic Four wouldn't even make sense in the X-Men film universe. Because they would be considered as mutants, which they are not in the comics. The Fantastic Four are suppose to be beloved by the public, yet the world hates mutants (pre-Logan era). That's some serious contradictions right there. Besides, Fox doesn't own the film rights to Fantastic Four anyway. That's why you haven't seen a crossover yet between Fantastic Four and X-men.

That's SIX Marvel character films in a year and I can't wait! When Deadpool 2 is my sixth most anticipated effort, you know it's going to be a great year.

What I don't get is why is Fox picking release dates with heavy competition?

Dark Phoenix VS Disney’s Mulan remake?

New Mutants VS Universal Monster Movie?

That's a bad draw for X-Men any way you cut it. Both will lose the weekend and the competition was there first. I don't get it.

I like the idea of this movie and look forward to hearing more. I honestly think they should be doing this movie alone and not another X-Men movie.

Anya Taylor-Joy, Maisie Williams Set to Star in 'X-Men' Spinoff 'New Mutants'

Fox’s long-awaited X-Men spinoff New Mutants is finally getting casting up.

Anya Taylor-Joy, the star of The Witch and Split, and Game of Thrones' Maisie Williams have signed on to star in the project, the ensemble young adult super hero movie being directed by Josh Boone.

The movie is headed towards an early July start and is armed with a script by Boone and his writing partner, Knate Gwaltney. Simon Kinberg and Karen Rosenfelt are producing.

New Mutants, created by Chris Claremont and Bob McLeod, was the first X-Men comic spinoff, launched in the early 1980s as the franchise began two decades of dominating the comic book industry.

The movie will focus on the angst-driven adventures of a diverse group of teens that include Native American Danielle Moonstar, Scots girl Wolfsbane, Brazilian ladies man Sunspot, a Kentuckian code-named Cannonball, and Russian teen Magik. Also in the mix will be an alien named Warlock.

Taylor-Joy will play Magik, a girl who has learned sorcery and uses teleportation discs to travel. She is also the sister of Colossus, an X-Man who appeared in Deadpool.

Williams will play Wolfsbane, a girl struggling to reconcile her religious beliefs with her power to turn into a wolf.

Boone has been eyeing the actresses since last year but was only able pull the trigger on them once the movie was greenlit earlier this year. The movie has a April 13, 2018 release date.

The studio is making serious efforts to find ethnically appropriate actors, conducting wide searches for a Native American to play Moonstar and a South American for Sunspot.

Excellent.

This thing has to start production in the next two months to make that April release date, so July is cutting it close for sure. Lots of news should start hitting soon.

Rumor-Breaker: James McAvoy Won’t Be In New Mutants

https://www.bleedingcool.com/2017/05...t-new-mutants/

That sucks. I wanted McAvoy to carry over as Professor X. Looks like no Split reunion with Anya Taylor-Joy in this movie either.
