Default I don't understand why the TVs don't look very good in the showroom...

So I have been trying to convince my wife to let me make a major investment into a TV. To facilitate this, I've been trying to do research like crazy, but this has led to a couple of strange happenings...

1) My original choice was the Samsung 50" Plasma (PN50A650). Upon FINALLY finding this in a Circuit City showroom my wife and I decided that it did not look worth the price it held. This Circuit City had all HDTV's on a component switchbox, which made them all look TERRIBLE. I don't mean bad, I mean it looked like I was watching TV over an antenna, which is a terrible way to show off televisions, but even through all that we could tell that it simply didn't look as good as the surrounding televisions. Also, when we were at this store the employee told me LCDs are way better and yadda yadda, which is COMPLETELY contrary to all the online research I had done.

2) After this I decided that I needed to do some overboard research! After looking up a LOT more, I came to my second choice, the Panasonic Viera 50" Plasma (TH50PZ800U). Once again, I found this in a Circuit City showroom (a MUCH MUCH better Circuit City that appeared to have an entire "featured" section, of televisions with their own Bluray players plugged through HDMI, which led me to a new problem. What I can only describe as... "snow." Every solid color appeared to be crawling within itsself. I know it sounds strange, but it appeared as if buildings, faces, clothing, EVERYTHING was crawling around within the colors. I wish I could describe it better, but I can't. When I asked the sales clerk about it (because my wife was PISSED at me, thinking I was retarded telling her this was one of the best Plasma's for the price) he couldn't explain it, and once again told me that he preferred LCDs.

Now my wife thinks I'm retarded, and that 120Hz LCDs are WAAAAY better, I just wanted some help on figuring out why the TV was doing that, if LCDs actually ARE better, why people like them...

HEEELP!
