Why would it? It's being shot on 35mm and as such looks as grainy as the stock there using. The Walking Dead is shot on 16mm which is usually grainer then 35mm.

Just speaking out of bad experience with the latest 35mm films remastered in 4K HDR that I watched

Not to detail the thread, but is this still true? I feel like somewhere along the way, THE WALKING DEAD starting having a "cleaner" look.

Yes it is. I have been watching the series on Blu-ray and just finished Season 5. It is much more grain reduced than previous seasons and at times looks like video to me even though it was all shot on 16mm. I miss the look of the earlier seasons because it looked like a movie instead of a glossy digitally shot TV show like everything else out there. As this is the Blu-ray there's no broadcast compression to deal with from your TV provider, so more DNR is being used on the show. It is still very detailed and not waxy looking but I don't see any reason to shoot on 16mm if you are trying to dial down the grain. Film has its own look so why not celebrate it instead of hiding it?

Breaking Bad also had this situation, although it was 35mm rather than 16mm.

I believe Rocky 3 is a pretty grainy movie. Oh the irony!

I am not a fan of steelbooks in general for multiple reasons. First and foremost I will need to have it shipped and I rarely get one without problems. Then the slightest thing can damage it and I dont want to deal with it. Plus the inevitable follow up seasons would all need to have a matching steelbook or it would look weird.

I get this but it's not really a steelbook, it's a tin akin to their Band of Brothers and The Pacific releases.

I believe one of the articles on this release states that the tin is a limited time only thing but I’ll have to look through them and see where it was stated and how true it will be.

Isn't this the very first series ever being released in UHD? Just on that alone I'm pre-ordering [emoji41]

I think it's the first major fiction-based TV series (there has been Planet Earth II and a German (I think?) TV series already).

I preordere. At $45 the first time I hesitated and then it shot up to $56 and I regretted not ordering. Maybe that was Amazon's plan all along but since it went back down I decided to preorder it. This is a complete blind buy for me mainly because I haven't seen any of it but several of my well trusted friends have been singing it's praises and well I almost always agree with them on these matters. While I could watch the season at any point in time, I'll likely wait for the 4K copy before binge watching it. So I can enjoy this brilliantly sounding show in 4K goodness!

I'm eager to get this. I haven't watched the show yet; decided to wait to binge watch it on disc... was very excited to see this is getting a UHD release. I'd much rather it be released in a regular multi-disc case, though. These tins are often irritating. Hopefully it's a regular UHD case inside the tin.

If it does well, I hope it motivates other studios to get some other series out. I know Netflix doesn't seem to like releasing most of their shows on disc, but Stranger Things really needs a UHD release.

I want a Stranger Things UHD more then pretty much anything at this point. Would settle for a Blu-Ray but Netflix isn't budging on that front which is disappointing.

Having watched this on HBO I'm liking the idea of revisiting in UHD.

The only downside, and this is an unusual one: if I get spoiled by the PQ then I will need to decide whether to skip HBO S2 altogether and wait for a proper UHD release.

Planet Earth 2 is a documentary not a drama/mini-series like WestWorld.
I think this is the first of its kind to make it to UHD, therefore, I say YES to pre-order
