Recalibrated systems, HDMI, component, CRT, LCD, etc.

I recalibrated my basement theater with the Joe Kane Blu-ray HD essentials. I think I did a real good job and the picture got better, the sound thru 5.1 analog is definitively better. A Sony BDP-S550 is connected to my projector, a 720p Sharp, thru component cable (no HDMI available on projector or receiver). I watched WALL-E and the picture was excellent, but most animation already looked flawless on DVD already. I'll watch sometime with live action to compare. Did not blow me away.

I went upstairs and calibrated the family room system with the same Joe Kane disc. I have an "old" Sony CRT, the KD-34XBR960, connected with an four-foot Blue Jeans HDMI cable to the Sony BDP-S350 player. WOW!!! The picture was actually adjusted to perfect levels according to the disc, and the images are spectacular.

I now believe the story that no other display betters CRT. I also think HDMI is the way to go. I'll start saving for a new projector and receiver. I'll be busting my ass on 2009 to have my Xmas presents a year from now.Early New Year's resolution.
