Are there any surround sound systems on the market for somewhat cheap, that have hdmi inputs and output? I want one that i can plug my television and ps3 into. I am talking about the basic package like those sony dream systems they used to make, or still do.

I've been looking too for an HDMI surround sound system for cheap but no luck yet because it's not X-Mas anymore. They are very expensive and put you it debt for a very long time. The price range is around $500 to $2000. I've also been looking at Soundbars as a substitute for surround system. Soundbars range around $300 to $700

I bought a Sony STR-DA5200ES, on ebay for $700, original retail price around $1500. It has 3 HDMI inputs and One HDMI output, it can upscale any video signal to 1080p, many many other features. I am loving it. I already had a receiver and surround speakers, so I just upgraded what I had, and am still in the process of upgrading all the speakers.

I am a bit confused and was wondering if anyone could confirm the below for me.
- If I buy a HDMI amp with input and output, does that means I would connect my PS3 to the amp, and then output it from the amp to the TV to see the picture and hear the sound? - In all fairness, what is better for sound, optical or HDMI? - Is it worth getting 7.1 yet? Thanks for all your help. |

HDMI is better than optical. 7.1 is up to you. I am still working on upgrading speakers, and I currently only have 6.1, and I am okay with that. I plan on getting to 7.1, just can't yet. |

moose4130 - Brilliant, top notch answers. Thank you.
Guess I'll be saving up for this Home Theature system then Onkyo TX-SR605. Unless of course anyone knows of a better 7.1 system for Blu-Ray? |
