the red/blue anaglyph way was exactly how anyone saw the movie when it came out. how exactly was it not meant to be seen that way? converting it changes the experience totally. there is zero chance that i'm going to make any effort to buy a 3d tv. it would have been nice to present it as originally done for those who wished to see it as audiences did in the 50s.

The red/blue lenses were used for the 70s re-release. The original presentation used polarized lenses.

Yep total inaccuracy. If you watch the documentary on the Creature DVD/BD, Robert Furmanek (a member on this forum by the way) actually shows off a pair of glasses like the ones used then. The lenses were clear, NOT red and blue.

ok but are those glasses included in the set? no. you can't watch the movie as they did in the 50s either way you look at it. you need a 3D tv and many do't have one. while it's cool for those who do it kinda sucks for the rest of us. i can watch F13 pt 3 or even the recent My Bloody Valentine but not the creature. all i'm saying.

It's a valid argument. My 3D plasma died in December and I have no plans to replace it because the cost is sky high. Unless I'm mistaken, new 3D TVs aren't even sold in America any longer. So, the 3D aspect is not option for many of us.

I saw Creature From the Black Lagoon in the theater back in the early 80s and it was in red blue. I saw Mad Magician and The Mask that way theatrically too. House of Wax used polaroid. So did the Andy Warhol movies.

Beginning in the 1950’s, polarization systems were used to create 3D movies. In the polarization method, two images are projected superimposed onto the same screen through different polarizing filters (and typically using two different movie projectors). The viewer of the movie wears eyeglasses which contain a pair of polarizing filters oriented differently so that each lens filter passes only the light which is similarly polarized and blocks the light that is polarized differently so that each eye sees a different image. The two different images represent slightly different perspectives of the scene and give the view the sense of depth.



I think that maybe the theatre people went to depended on the type of 3D. I could have sworn I read some people saw Jaws 3D in analglyph in 1983 but when I saw it the glasses were polarized. Maybe some theatres were only able to show the films in analglyph I don't know. All the 3d movies I saw in the theatre were polarized. Maybe Universal could have included both types of 3D with The Creature collection for those who don't have 3D TV's but they chose not to.
It does stink that 3d TV's are no longer being made, these classic movies are great in 3D. I think they are still making projectors that can show 3D movies so I may look into that once I remodel my living room.

There are 3-D projectors on the market, and some of them are inexpensive. I have a 3-D projector and it's great. It's like having your own personal movie theater. I highly recommend projectors, especially for fans of classic 3-D movies.

Many people believe they don't have the room for a projector, but the reality is you don't need that much room. It's not a big deal to set a projector system up in your living room. It's only a matter of determining how big of a screen you want. If the projector specs tell you that the projector needs to be 12 feet away to fill a 110 inch screen - and your room happens to be 12 feet wide - then you know that the biggest screen you can buy is 110 inches. Of course, you're going to spend a little money on the screen and projector, but in many cases no more than what you'd spend on a new TV.

In this day and age when TV manufacturers have (temporarily) turned a blind eye on 3-D, projectors are the way to go if you want to watch 3-D content at home.

My lazy right eye prevents me from seeing 3D in the first place. I can get the general gist of what 3D filmmakers are trying to convey, but I don't benefit from the full effect.

Creature from the Black Lagoon, however, is one of the few movies that I genuinely wish that I were able to see in 3D. I can tell just by watching the 2D version that it's probably a real trip in 3D.

I wouldn't put the blame on 3D. I think most films are post converted anyway. Very few are natively filmed in 3D anymore.

I think the over-reliance of CGI has made many modern movies unbearable. Also, I'm sick of action that defies physics and human ability. Lastly, I don't know when the trend started (The Matrix?), but I wish filmmakers would stop using selective slow motion.

I've never had 3D in the home. At the time of my purchases it either wasn't available or not in the model I wanted. I do have a Sony projector from 2009 that does not support 3D, but I'm hoping they will continue the 3D support for the near future so it can be supported in my next projector, whenever that may be (when my current one dies).

The Invisible Man set has one movie I have, one I don't care for, and four I really want, so $29 is a good deal for four movies. Unfortunately, as big a fan as I am of Creature, getting one movie I have, one I don't care for, and only one I want is a bit much to me for $29. Especially, given that I think it will probably be available for $15 before the year is out. It will be nice to see Return for the first time in widescreen, and hopefully in 3D, but i can wait a bit.

Though Creature is a sweet slice of 50's sci-fi/horror even in 2D, the 3D definitely amps up the entertainment factor. 50's movies in my collection such as House of Wax, It Came From Outer Space and Dial M For Murder are likewise examples of this.The camp factor in more modern titles such as Drive Angry, Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters and the remake of My Bloody Valentine (which has some downright striking moments in the format) is similarly elevated.

3D is like any cinematic tool, it can be well-utilized or not and, of course, much depends on the filmmaker using it (some directors clearly have a talent and enthusiasm for it and others are apathetic at best). I agree most post-converted potential blockbusters are a mixed bag; the 2014 Godzilla could likely have done without it while Mad Max: Fury Road, a great ride even in 2D, gets quite a boost with the addition of the third dimension. And even the most perfunctory release is bound to have some great scenes and moments in 3D.

3D obviously hasn't been embraced by the masses for home video and while that's a shame so be it - I'll cherish my 3D Blu's even more when they become niche titles in my collection.

Personally, I can't wait to see that money shot of the creature escaping from the aquarium that had become his prison and launching himself out of the water straight into the camera; it's gonna be epic (along with the rest of the film ).

Once again the spectre of red/green in ALL 50s 3D releases raises its oh-so-wrong head.
Let me once again repeat this. When I was 10 and seeing these releases in the theatre, ALWAYS wore clear glasses. I NEVER ONCE was given red/green glasses. NEVER!!!
