Eddie Muller's list is excellent, except that City That Never Sleeps is not of the same caliber as the rest of the films (and I'd rejigger the order a bit).

Essentially a winter hiatus, tied to "30 Days of Oscar." It starts up again on March 9th.

I agree. Although I like City That Never Sleeps, I think there are several "better" choices. (And I still haven't seen Moonrise or Odds Against Tomorrow, so I can't judge their inclusion.)

Love his Top 5 choices, however. Hard to beat In a Lonely Place, Criss Cross, Sunset Boulevard, Asphalt Jungle, and Double Indemnity. I would personally drop Maltese Falcon down a few notches, though. It's a terrific film and certainly belongs on the list. But better than Nightmare Alley, Night and the City, or Out of the Past? Nah.

Any list that omits The Third Man is suspect. I'd put it in the place of Sunset Boulevard because, despite his insistence, Sunset Boulevard never really struck me as noir.

There’s no doubt The Third Man is a good film. But I find it significantly overrated by most people. I could list 25 noirs I personally think are better as well.

I'll add one to the growing list of recommendations...though it's not on blu.

BORN TO KILL

Few noirs are as full of self-interested, morally devoid characters. I think everyone in the story is a piece of shit.

I'm struggling to think of 5 films which are better, irrespective of genre.

I find anyone who doesn't think Sunset Boulevard is noir to be suspect.

Sunset Boulevard is definitely noir, and sophisticated story telling, but I never watch it.
Movies about movie people take me out of the movie.
