Arrow Suicide Squad (2016)

Not sure if this is the right direction to go for DC, but here you have it:

Quote:
The assorted crusaders and rogues of Watchmen are dark heroes, sure, but they're the good guys for the most part. For some real team of villains action, we'll have to go to Suicide Squad, a DC Comics property set for adaptation at Warner Bros.

Variety reports that Sherlock Holmes producer Dan Lin has been assigned to shepherd the project, which is based on a comic series that debuted in 1959 and was launched as a full-fledged series in 1987. The squad is made up of famous and unknown villains alike, who are allowed out of jail to accomplish tasks deemed too dangerous for superheroes. The usual superhero rivalries and interpersonal conflicts pop up, but given that these guys are honest-to-God villains, tempers probably wind up flaring even more often.
Sorry if this was already posted and I missed it...

I'm not familiar with it. I'd rather have this than another remake though.

I read that with the great response Ledger got with The Joker (A villian), how he steals the show and all, that they now want a movie "full of villians"..
So there ya go. Could be very cool.

Maybe one day they'll make a villian comedy, like the life of Venture Bros. and they're villians.

Or better yet a Venture Bros. movie.

Not a bad concept to make into a movie, just hope that Warner doesn't decide to make everything in DC stash dark...

Default David Goyer Developing Lower-Budget ‘Suicide Squad’, ‘Team 7′, and More for DC

Quote:
So far, Warner Bros.’ DC Universe has focused mostly on big, iconic figures like Superman and Batman. But the DC Comics stable stretches far beyond the Justice League, and now the studio is looking to bring some lesser known properties to the silver screen.

According to a new report, David Goyer is working on lower-budget adaptations of more obscure titles like Suicide Squad, Booster Gold, Deathstroke, and Team 7. Hit the jump for more details on these developing projects.

Bleeding Cool broke the news. Goyer will produce the films as part of his first-look deal with Warner Bros., which more or less makes him the Kevin Feige of the DC Cinematic Universe.

To give an idea of just how low-budget we’re talking, the site’s sources indicate that Suicide Squad will have a production budget of around $40 million, while other titles could cost as little as $20 million. In comparison, this summer’s Man of Steel had a price tag of about $225 million.

Their sources also indicate that Warner Bros. plans to release these films twice a year, in spring and fall. They’ll complement the studio’s tentpole franchises, allowing Warner Bros. to expand its DC universe cheaply enough that it has money left over to pay for bigger-budget pics. Warner Bros. is expected to make the announcement sometime next year.

For the uninitiated, Suicide Squad centers on a team of imprisoned supervillains who work for the U.S. government in exchange for commuted sentences; Team 7 follows a superpowered black-ops military unit; Booster Gold is about a cocky time-traveling superhero from the 25th century; and Deathstroke centers a super soldier turned mercenary.

If the smaller price tags and less famous names give Warner Bros. the freedom to get more creative with their superhero offerings, this seems like an intriguing idea. If, on the other hand, Warner Bros. is just banking on the belief that comic book fans will turn out for any lazily made adaptations, this could set Warner Bros./DC back even further in their race against Marvel Studios.

What do you think? What other titles would you like to see Warner Bros./DC tackle?

So, Warner's trying to explore What Went Wrong With Man of Steel and Dark Knight Rises, and they think it must've been that we've seen the heroes too many times. ("Say, maybe Marvel's got something there with those Guardians-whoever!") Unfortunately, they've still got Goyer writing, so they haven't quite struck the root of the problem, yet.
No mention of Nolan "consulting", but now that Goyer has been made the "Kevin Feige czar of DCMU", unquote, there may have been a shakeup.

(And think they're Somewhat Unclear on the Concept as to why Marvel's doing heroes we've never heard of--
GotG are at least strategically tied in with future Marvel Avengers movies, while Booster Gold was a comedy-relief loser in the DCU:

Yeah I think Booster Gold is going to flop, he's a boring egomaniac with no exciting powers and all he does is complain that nobody respects him.

Think they want to go for "tongue in cheek genre spoof" like the cartoon episode, and throw themselves on the non-fan audience who want to laugh at the trend--
Although Boostie already had his official Warner DCU live-action Smallville "audition" where he at least wants to be seen Captain Squarejaw, but he's still an obnoxious jerk:
(And Greg Kinnear already did the "Corporate NASCAR-sponsored super-suit" joke in Mystery Men.)

Yeah I was referring to his appearances on Smallville and the Justice League show. I'm all for a proper live action Young Justice show though, can't be worse than Agents of SHIELD.

Warner Brothers do understand that the interesting thing about the whole cinematic universe thing is that all the films are supposed to feel different. Having Goyer do them all is a sure fire way to get your franchise mindnumbingly dull rather quickly. HIRE SOME NEW BLOOD DAMNIT!

Warner Bros. Circling David Ayer for DC Comics’ ‘Suicide Squad’ (Exclusive)
Quote:
With several unnamed DC Comic films already slated for release through 2020, it looks like one of those pics has been unveiled.

Sources tell Variety that “Fury” director David Ayer is the choice to direct “Suicide Squad,” based on the DC comic book series.

It is unknown where things stand in the dealmaking process as Warners would not comment, but sources say the studio feels Ayer is a good fit for the dark and edgy film.

Dan Lin is producing the pic from a script by Justin Marks.

The original comic series focused on a team of supervillains who were given a second chance by the government for redemption. The catch is that the mission they are sent on will likely end up killing all of them.

The group doesn’t include any major DC supervillains like the Joker or Lex Luthor, but the characters will likely have an opportunity to cross over between other DC properties and vice versa for non-Suicide Squad members appearing in this film.

Ayer is best known for his realistic and gritty cop dramas like “End of Watch” and “Training Day.” His much buzzed-about WWII pic “Fury” is bowing in October.

I'm in, still waiting for the first really good villain film and I have a feeling this could be it. Some really good characters have been on the Suicide Squad over the years.
