Only other issues I've ever had was a Sleepy Hollow release that would only play in one of 7 players tried, and even then it wasn't flawless. And a BD-R Film Detective Official Release that froze on every player 30 minutes in (which they replaced with a working copy) |

I placed an order with DaaVeeDee a few weeks ago for a number of released (mainly Italian films) and couldn't help myself and purchased replacement Blu Rays for Danton & The Night of Varennes.
Both are appear to be still in print as Amazon France are still selling them. Got them today and happy to report that The Night of Varennes plays find and the disc itself looks fine. I assume this is a later pressing. Danton, whilst it played fine so I'll be able to re-watch the film does have a circle forming in the centre of the disc so its probably a later printing than my first purchase but still from a time there was still issues. Still the dark circle forming in the centre may never get any worse or cause any playback issues in the future - only time will tell. |

12 years? Why did you even buy it, you should've just rented it. People don't buy movies just to store in a rack for umpteen years, and expect them to still play afterwards. Anything that's not being used for that long, it's going to have problems because, the internal mechanisms need to operable and in use for them for self lubrications and mobile to keep them functioning.

This is absolute nonsense. It's a disc not a car. There are no moving parts so nothing to maintain. The only reason optical discs ever go bad are because of either manufacturing problems or mishandling by the user. A lot of these discs are breaking down because the plastic layer/s covering the data are letting in air and slowing oxidising the data layer. It's either poor material which is breaking down overtime or its the glue used. |

Have the problems causing these early discs to fail been addressed in more recent disc production?

![]() It never hurts to ask the studio for a replacement, and many studios will oblige, but Disney, in my experience, is not one of them. Last edited by Vilya; 12-15-2019 at 03:22 PM. |

If those discs were from the early days of Blu ray those studios u mentioned were all using Cinram . Cinram was the worst replicator on the planet and they eventually filed for bankruptcy There were other labels using Cinram in the early days of Blu ray but their website vanished with the bankruptcy so I can’t rememember. All the Warner HD-dvds were pressed at Cinram and most of those rotted years ago |
