While it's a little extreme, I actually had the same thought myself. I really think these cases are a bad idea. They're going to end up having the opposite effect. However, here's a bit from Jeff Kleist over on the Bits thread:

No, no one likes them, and it's gone all the way up the PR depts when they first started hitting.

I think they'll stop using them when they get a lot of retailer returns for damaged artwork

But that will probably take 6 months at least. In the end they will probably come up with a way to take the plastic out without cutting holes in it, personally I wouldn't mind sacrificing that waste of space blu-ray bump, but I guess that's here to stay
