You may have seen early prototype images before, but not with Pioneer's Elite USA Gold escutcheon markings, enhanced dampening feet and chassis.

Here's the link to our dedicated BDP-LX500 page with more information.

This player will make its USA showing at CEDIA and of course soon after at Value Electronics.

See how that works?

I’m interested in any new player and visit this thread to see what folks have to say about the Pioneer UHD BD player.

I have a soft spot for Pioneer, owned a Pioneer CLD-900 LaserDisc player for 19 years and a RT-707 reel-to-reel tape machine for a few years, it was a great looking machine and mounted in my 19" rack without adapters. Donated the CLD-900 and all my disc. The RT-707 was sold and replaced with a Teac A-3340S because it had 10-½" reels and was 4 channels.

So here is hoping Pioneer can continue and offer products that appeal to their target market.
We just heard word about new Pioneer receivers which will be announced at CES 2021, but no player yet.

Coincidentally, Panasonic used to call their LaserDisc players "LX-something."

It's his way of admitting to us that there will not be a new Pioneer player.

Neither Pioneer nor I said there wasn't going to be one, it just hasn't happened yet. Companies usually end up announcing more things than just three new receiver models.

So your inference was there would be a new player. If you had just stuck with "i wish or hope" instead of idiotic read between the line inferences, you would have been fine.

OK. I hope they will announce a new player soon.

UPDATE: It looks like Pioneer has all but, albeit quietly, exited the disc player market. I have owned the Panasonic for a while now, and if you do want a machine with all these features there is the MAGNETAR.

Pioneer will be at the virtual CES 2021 HOWEVER they are NOT announcing a new UHD player. They are scheduled to talk about AV and their role in autonomous cars. I actually cannot see 1 single 4K player announcement so it appears it will be absent from CES once again in 2021 as it was in 2020.

If you go to the official CES page

https://digital.ces.tech/sessions?t=...522%253A0%257D

You can See Pioneer does not even have an announcement scheduled for 2021 products. This my friends is the end.

OK. How about IFA 2021? IFA is where they introduced the flagship SC-LX904 receiver, which basically looks like the UDP-LX500/UDP-LX800 only MUCH larger, as well as the PD-50AE Super Audio CD player.

Remember Pioneer just got back in business again, so maybe it hasn’t been enough time for development of a player.

Besides, Ultra HD Blu-ray players obviously fall into the A/V category. The format is only almost five years old. My hope is still not lost.

UPDATE: It looks like Pioneer has all but, albeit quietly, exited the disc player market. Now there is the MAGNETAR for those who want a machine with all of these features.

You just dont get it man. Everyone has been telling you from the get go, the Ultra HD format on physical media simply does not have the support of the people it is all about streaming.

Quote:
According to numbers gathered by research firm Futuresource for the conference and supplied to us, the global installed base of 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray players was estimated to be 7.4 million units for 2019 and is forecast to rise to 10.7 million in 2020; 14.2 million in 2021 and 17.5 million in 2022. Again, these numbers are for dedicated Ultra HD Blu-ray players only.

That indicates that over the next three years, there will be flat year-to-year growth and a global unit shipment level of 3.3 million (2020), 3.5 million (2021), and 3.3 million (2022).

The numbers indicate that while demand for the physical media format exists, it’s not the thriving category that the original Blu-ray Disc format was at this point in its rollout.
There simply just is not enough support from the production companies. The most your going to have soon are low end players. Thats it. Plain and simple. You can keep hoping but every industry insider as well as high end retail insider is going to tell you the same thing. These companies are pulling out. Count Pioneer as the final two that left in 2020.

At this point if you continue to keep this up its like talking to a brick wall because for months you kept saying CES 2021 new announcement. well guess what I showed you CES isnt happening now your saying something else. give it a rest its over. Pioneer Elite in the USA is gone its over.

Seriously doubt a new BD or UHD BD player was a high priority for any maker during 2020. Without a new addition to the spec or a new chip set made available why would there be.

Same for streaming players, during 2020 Roku added DV to the Ultra, Chromecast added one with a remote, no change for Apple, Fire TV or Nvidia. Would not expect to see any major new announcements CES 2021.

Media players did see new models in 2020 from Dune and Zidoo based on the newer Realtek RTD1619. Some expect new players from Zappiti.

By now most should be aware Tascam has a new BD-MP4K UHD BD player for 2021 but it is targeted for the commercial market.

Nice info Wendell, but in all honesty its just him he refuses to accept what everyone is telling him. Its like a trying to teach a 5 year old how to read or a 2 year old how to use the potty.

We are a year or two away from any new chipsets, with AV1 decoding, so new players are not likely until that time. AV1 is just now landing in TV SOCs and then comes the media player/set-top box SOCs, which will lead to UHD-BD players.

IFA is geared to Europe like CES is geared to the US. You live in the US.

The only new "features" are Dolby Vision IQ and HDR10+ Adaptive which are TV features, not player features. And the lead company no longer makes BD players for the US.

You can wait till Hell freezes over - manufacturers have seen that UHD-BD is a niche format and doesn't require new players. That's why none have been announced.

AV1 is a type of streaming format. Ultra HD Blu-ray discs are encoded in HEVC (High Efficiency Video Coding, aka H.265 and MPEG-H Part 2).
