what does anyone know so far? where are the reviews? what is PQ like based on the other country versions that are out? Kinda surprised to find no big discussion on this monumental movie box set.

Maybe because it's not released until May 12.

People have them in other countries and I don't think they are promo copies. Can we not assume the UK and US actual picture quality might be the same? See this thread talking about a problem with Part VI: https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=96918

By the way, the new 5.1 remixes are awesome.
A huge improvement over DVDs.

There's complaints about DNR and EE over on AVS Forum, but what else is new.

You think those pics look awesome? Seriously? I was excited to get these too until I saw those screen caps. Looks like a DNR nightmare. Definitely waiting for a proper review now but more than likely I won't buy anyway after seeing those.

I hope BlockBuster plans on having the movies available to rent separately, currently there not on their website, cause I plan on renting them.

Those screen captures do not look that great. Pretty bad DNR has been used or the masters are out of date. I have the set already ordered but those pictures do not inspire confidence.

I'm thinking i will Cancel my order and wait for a better set.
I have never seen star trek. I just bought the Season 1 set today and i'm going to be watching the show for the first time later on today. I don't believe I will become a trekkie, so i figured watching these movies it wouldn't matter if I saw the Directors cut or not still if the directors cuts are indeed the ones to watch then parhaps i'm just best waiting around. Problem is i don't think I will see this set for less then 80 dollars until the next set comes out. But who knows maybe i won't even like Star Trek...

Yeah, while better than the DVD those screencaps really do not look good. Personally, I suspect DNR due to the almost total lack of any grain.

Also, it is crazy that someone has never seen ST.

New releases by Paramount usually look quite good.

However, too many of their catalog titles seem to stem from out-of-date masters (used for DVD years ago) which contain far too much DNR and EE. It seems they were too cheap to create new masters.

I will pass on these.

It's safe to assume that new masters were struck for TMP and TUC, since they are the original theatrical versions and have never seen the light of DVD let alone BD. I'm waiting for proper reviews to come in before writing this set off.

Thanks for posting these. These BD transfers are HORRIBLE. Look at the plastisizing of this particular scene vis a vie DNR.

Note the contours of the bridge and the background landscape profile...

Sorry, but you're mistaken. The first DVD was the same home video version released in 1992 to VHS and Laserdisc. It contained Rene Aubergonois' bit about cleaning the Klingons' chronometers as well as the Scooby-Doo ending as well as a few other bits of extra footage. It was the only version ever released to home video until the Director's Edition 2 Disc, where Nicholas Meyer added some different close ups McCoy during the Spock/Valeris mind-meld in addition to the previous extra footage. The aspect ratio was different from the theatrical version as well, 2.11:1 or something like that. The BD will be the first time the original theatrical version of VI has ever been released to home video.

They virtually removed all of the grain in that shot^. What's left almost looks like compression artifacting.
