I know WB owns HB but I didn’t realize they owned international distribution rights to Charlotte’s Web.

I thought Paramount had worldwide rights until I looked at the company credits and saw the amount of different distributors listed. I was surprised to see that Astral did the VHS here in Canada, but then the rights ended up reverting to Paramount over here later on.

Quite amazing how active and lucid he was toward the end.
His autobiography is even better than the commentaries he did. Sherman pulled no punches and sugarcoated nothing.

Ah! No wonder we get along so well.

With the Paramount gates opened one wonders what gold may flow out now.

OUATITW is one of the absolute big ones. It’s been in need of work for an extremely long time. Not only is there the alternative Italian longer cut, versions with and without Harmonica rising from the station but there were some errors in the old restoration that caused things like the incorrect music cue to be put on the ending and stay there all these years. Plus the mono on the BD release is a lossy version of the Laserdisc mono with the same inherent noise throughout.

Some of these have been released in the UK and Australia, but we are not all region-free.
The ones released by Imprint in Australia (and that's most of these) are not region locked. Still, I'd rather give my money to Kino if domestic versions are forthcoming.

I know that's there some more like 100 slips being released for GBU but will there be any for Spaceballs?

Just curious why there was only 5,000 for those two titles and is there any plans to print additional slips for those titles so to match the 10K per the other titles?

That's precisely the one I'm talking about, though given the Insider's response it doesn't appear to be included unfortunately.

And just a few months ago we were worried if Kino was going into UHD at all I'm glad the format has taken off for Kino. Great news also for physical media in general.

The Paramount deal is exciting but I would feel better if Paramount allowed more titles to be freshly scanned - some of their masters are dated to the DVD era. I'd love to have a new scan of Escape From Alcatraz, for instance. I'm fairly confident the film is on Kino's radar as a possible pickup. I mean, it's freaking Clint Eastwood.

Interesting tidbit about the 43 new-to-the-US titles. That's 43 films that were released elsewhere in the world before us. I've imported a handful of Paramount titles over the years and always wondered why they skipped the US market.

Given how many Billy Wilder films Kino has released, I have to think UHDs of Sunset Blvd. and Ace in the Hole are on the table, and maybe even new releases of Stalag 17 and Sabrina.

Thought I'd compile a summary of what we know about the Paramount deal so far:

The Counterfeit Traitor (1962)
Aces High (1968)

Escape from Alcatraz (1979) 4K UHD

Indecent Proposal (1993) 4K UHD

Tropic Thunder (2008) 4K UHD

60 titles left to announce:

1940s x 2
1950s x 14
1960s x 10
1970s x 16
1980s x 9
1990s x 7
2000s x 2

- 41 more new to Blu-ray in the US (8 of these new to disc)
- 13 more 4K UHD titles, all format debuts (all previously released on Blu-ray)
- 'Most' of the 4K UHD titles are currently available on Blu-ray from the studio
- Planning to remaster two to three dozen titles, and will remaster any 'big' title they think is in need of a new transfer

- Includes at least one 3D title
- Includes a few Republic titles
- Includes some titles released by Imprint in Australia
- Includes a few film noir titles

- No CBS or Miramax titles
- No titles previously released by Olive
- No titles currently under licence to Shout or Criterion
- No titles previously released solely as BD-Rs by Paramount
- No serials
- No animation
- No TV movies
- No Elvis
- No John Wayne
- No Batjac titles
- Films seemingly ruled out for various reasons: Borsalino, Gunn, Little Darlings, Looking for Mr Goodbar, The Keep, When Worlds Collide, Catch-22 (with another label), Fighting Back (with another label or coming via Paramount)

Unless it’s the Polanski connection, I can’t imagine Paramount not releasing it in 4K themselves. But hey, if it’s Kino, day one preorder on their site for me

In terms of stuff that Imprint has released, I think these are good possibilities:

Black Sunday (though part of me feels Shout has this one)
I Married a Monster from Outer Space
Regarding Henry
The Day of the Locust
When Worlds Collide

and..

The Warriors UHD??

Paul Greengrass's Bloody Sunday was released by Paramount Classics back in 2002.

Any chance it could be part of the deal?

Interesting that no Olive titles are included. I guess that includes titles they only released on DVD and never upgraded to Blu-ray. Also, that would mean no Phase IV special edition like the one released in the UK and France. I wonder if Olive still plans to upgrade that one? I hope Kino releases The Red Tent and King Kong Lives.
