I'm curious if Paramount still owns Nightmare on the 13th Floor. One of my top TV movie wants, for sure.

Haha, I forgot about Brut! They financed "WELCOME TO ARROW BEACH" (1973), the 'sort-of' cannibal thriller with Laurence Harvey, Joanna Pettet, and Meg Foster, and directed by Harvey. Released by Warner Brothers theatrically, but has it gone back to Brut? Later cut down by 15 minutes and renamed "Tender Flesh" for later theatricals. It's only legit homevideo release ever (I believe) was the super rare early VHS days tape from Magnetic Video. It was the uncut version under its original title, as well.

Luminous Video & Filmwurks (remember them?, not legit) did a widescreen (I think) DVD of it many years ago explicitly calling it the "uncut version", but it was the chopped up edited cut. Worthless. The movie really hasn't been seen since and no one seems to care about finding it.

I wonder if it's another Bristol Meyer "Stepford Wives" etc. type situation, and Brut has it and doesn't care about licensing or asking too much. Wait, is Brut even still around??? Sorry, I don't use aftershave. It's not a great movie, but no one ever seems to ask for it these days, and I doubt it's with Warner still. But who licensed it to Magnetic 40 years ago???

Re: Sunburn, ya Paramount did at least release that on VHS back in the early days. Didn't know about MGM's MOD dvd. Hmmmm. Another forgotten Farrah with Jeff Bridges, "Somebody Killed Her Husband" never even made it to VHS.

So many films sort of lost to time, and not much interest in them anyway.

Paramount may own WELCOME TO ARROW BEACH. I have an uncut copy from a cable channel with a Paramount logo in the beginning. It would be a huge seller.

Interesting, I wonder how THAT happened. I just checked my old Magnetic tape and it came out in 1979!!! So 43 years ago.

And it runs the full 99 minutes, not the cut 85 minute version (which is the official running time shown on imdb - dumb.) imdb is also wrong again saying it was never released uncut in the US. And they also say WB relinquished rights to Brut as if it were always a WB film, but it was always Brut first, then WB got it from Brut and released it limited uncut theatrically, it bombed, they let it go back to Brut, who supposedly did the edited reissues themselves.

All that said, and I know this was all off-topic anyway, but how it's with Paramount now is baffling. I believe the old Magnetic tape opens with the Brut logo. But wait, if it's with Paramount now, maybe all of this is not off-topic! Kino just licensed it for a 4K UHD release of the uncut version!!!

So it is, and not sure why I was under the impression the only 'in print' release was the Imprint. Shame on Shout for insufficient promotion.

Yes, I read the response from KL after the fact of posting. A sad tale for sure, as The Duke's final draw was likely one of the most wanted titles in the deal, and certainly mine.

Is that so, as I interpreted the KL response that Criterion may lose the rights for some titles (inline with prior Paramount titles). That's also unfortunate, as it is such a great film, right up Kino's alley, and a UHD with a new scan would expose the film to a new/larger audience.

I wouldn't be surprised if a UHD of Nashville is in the deal, but I own the Criterion, and the 2021 Paramount Presents comes with a digital 4K redeemable in iTunes. We shall see.

I'm also guessing Condor is out of the running based on KL comments, as there are a number of UHD releases of the film available in Europe, albeit not offering much in the way of an improvement over the US Paramount Blu. Other titles in this category include Don't Look Now, which has a UHD from SC.

Oh well, guess I'm going to have to update my list with a few long shots, Citizens Band (Handle with Care) from Demme, Goin' South with Nicholson and The Last Tycoon with De Niro, followed by a crowd-pleasing UHD of Escape from Alcatraz with a special nod to Fred Ward:
  1. Bad Company
  2. Black Sunday (UHD; Imprint)
  3. Chinatown (UHD)
  4. Citizens Band (Handle with Care)
  5. Death Wish (UHD)
  6. Escape from Alcatraz (UHD)
  7. Goin’ South
  8. North Dallas Forty
  9. Paper Moon
  10. Pretty Baby
  11. Saturday Night Fever (UHD)
  12. The Conversation (UHD)
  13. The Duellists (UHD; Imprint)
  14. The Gambler (Imprint)
  15. The Last Tycoon
  16. The Possession of Joel Delaney (Imprint)
  17. The Warriors (UHD; Imprint)

Wow. I'm honestly shocked that this one isn't part of the deal.

Though if it wasn't available, it must be in the pipe from someone. Unless Paramount themselves have it earmarked for a new transfer down the line, but not anytime soon.

Sunburn is not available due to legal issues. We've asked for it before.

Many of these others are "DVD" titles that won't sell on Blu-ray. We're "kind-of" interested in one of them.
I’d be very interested in Bad Company (1972).

^ Bridges has a lot of fans, and I think it would be exploitable on that element alone.

I know that's what prompted my blind purchase of DVD. I still haven't gotten around to watching it yet.

It's supposed to be a pretty good movie, so I'd likely even upgrade before I ever saw it.
At least I would at Kino prices, not import prices.

I’m a sucker for revisionist westerns, and Bad Company, written and directed by Robert Benton with cinematography by Gordon Willis is one of the better ones. It may not be everyone’s cup of tea but it still sticks in my mind after 40+ years. Jeff Bridges is never bad in anything.

Chinatown will be 50 in 2024. I cannot imagine Paramount passing on the opportunity to release it on UHD. It is one of thier core titles.

I would wish you guys would try to release the tv mini series life with Judy garland me and my shadows, anne Frank that came out in early 2000’s on abc. The 1960 color live musical with Mary Martin Peter pan, And maybe it’s a long shot but the Rogers and Hammerstein Cinderella with brandy and Whitney Houston

Don’t know the rights situation but that is a bootleg. MGM limited stopped putting out releases a while prior to 2020 (2016 I think).
