I thought Rio Lobo was somewhat pedestrian myself. It feels too similar to Rio Bravo and El Dorado in some ways. But it is watchable. I''d probably pick it up for collector's sake.

I'm not a big fan of his Dirty Harry like movies. I just think you needed guys who would push boundaries at that time. Wayne's 70's run was more about awknowledging his age and vulnerabilities. Which worked well because the films did more than just rely on his screen persona as much. That's probably why many of his 70's movies are perhaps more respected now than when they were released.

It's just that the crime/detective movies called for the presence of guys like Clint and the Lee Marvin character from Point Blank.

It was known that the label who had it (widely speculated to be Olive since Paramount had an HD master ready to go) dropped it for reasons. I wouldn't be surprised if someone else grabbed it before Paramount briefly ceased licencing.

Interesting about the 4k Ritrovata restoration! Doesn't bode well if someone who has it in the US uses whatever yellow tinged mess Ritovata cooked up.

That all depends on if Paramount recently sorted out whatever clearance issues Waterloo had, and if they licenced it to Kino in this recent deal or perhaps will release it themselves. Sony possess the OCN and Paramount supposedly only has a badly battered IP and an interneg. They'd probably ask Sony to loan out their recent HD master if they don't want to spend on restoring their elements or doing their own master from the OCN.

I picked up the Imprint releases of When Worlds Collide, The Naked Jungle and Conquest of Space, but I'll likely double-dip if Kino releases any of them since they're all favorites. I hope if Kino has Secret of the Incas they'll announce it before it shows up for order with US retailers so I'm not tempted on a possible double-dip with it.

I was hoping the George Pal War of the Worlds might be one of the UHDs, but no Criterions put the kibosh on that. I'm sure there will be lots for me to get regardless.

Astral only had home video rights in Canada on loan from Paramount.

Someone on YT uploaded clips from a Spanish dubbed HDTV cap of Charlotte's Web and that had modern Time Warner Shields at the beginning and end replacing the Paramount logos. That would indicate Warner owning international rights since it was a HB co-production (Heidi's Song was another Hanna Barbera co-production that Paramount released in the US, but they had let their distribution rights expire and were assumed by Warner).

Sweet Kino! Lets' see how many of my Seventies x Sweet Seventeen faves and/or wants ultimately make the cut (given that I've already imported a few from Imprint):
  1. Bad Company
  2. Black Sunday (UHD; Imprint)
  3. Chinatown (UHD)
  4. Death Wish (UHD)
  5. Let's Scare Jessica to Death (Imprint)
  6. North Dallas Forty
  7. Paper Moon
  8. Pretty Baby
  9. Saturday Night Fever (UHD)
  10. The Conversation (UHD)
  11. The Duellists (UHD; Imprint)
  12. The Friends of Eddie Coyle (UHD)
  13. The Gambler (Imprint)
  14. The Possession of Joel Delaney (Imprint)
  15. The Shootist
  16. The Warriors (UHD; Imprint)
  17. Three Days of the Condor (UHD; SC)

A big ask but my number one request would be a UHD of The Duellists. Yes, it was recently made available by Imprint (after being OOP) and which many fans have imported, but Ridley has a beaucoup fan base, the source is in very good condition for a new scan and UHD/slip combo will entice a double-dip by many for Scott's beautifully composed and paced maiden effort.

I've wanted to pick up WWC and Naked Jungle but I always thought the former had a decent chance of a less expensive domestic release by Paramount themselves, and the latter is supposed to sport a very dated, unattractive transfer.
I hope Kino releases both.

Another title I've always wanted to see- though it has a reputation of being a stinker - is Bloodline (1979). Or as the ads of the time touted it- Sidney Sheldon's Bloodline.
Never been on DVD anywhere in the world, that I'm aware of. Great cast and a fun, kitschy Ennio Morriconce score.

Let's Scare Jessica to Death is with Shout! Factory.

The Shootist
is out as there are no John Wayne titles in the deal.

The Friends of Eddie Coyle
is with Criterion (and Insider said deal doesn't include any titles for which they only have UHD rights).

Let’s Scare Jessica To Death is currently under license to Shout! Factory and still in print.

The Possession of Joel Delaney would be great; I’d love to not import the Imprint release (which incidentally is not fully uncut as Imprint claimed).

I am absolutely not ruling out Targets from KLSC, based on what I’ve read about the situation between BFI and Paramount.

I think this Paramount deal sounds like a real treasure chest of stuff...can't wait to start hearing some specific titles!

Sunburn is another I've wanted to see for decades.

I've heard the legal issues are ownership related- sort of like a Bristol Meyers Squib situation (Is it Brut after shave that owns it?). I would love to see them get cleared up, but I don't expect to ever see this released. Not big enough of a title to go to the trouble of resolving whatever issues there are.

1950's X 14. So there could be a good chance for George Pal's When World's Collide (1951) to get a blu-ray release, maybe even an UHD release. Imprint's BD was somewhat underwhelming.

It's one of their signature titles and a huge box office hit, I doubt they would license it to any label.

I'm leaving for the weekend and will answer this, just this one time. We asked for the BD rights and it was not available, we don't think this film is big enough to release on UHD.

I cannot confirm or deny titles, but did it this one time.
