Young Lust may have been an ashcan project, from the outside looking in. Considering Robert Stigwood wasn't exactly a liked guy, and had a reputation for being a jerk to people, it wouldn't shock me if they made this movie on the cheap to fulfill whatever obligations they had, and then not-so-ceremoniously told Stigwood that the movie was canceled, and he could leave now. Besides, he cranked out some bombs in the 70s and 80s in addition to his hits, and it's possible that when they're all ranked together that he lost more than he gained. The movie could also have been a write-off, like Corman's Fantastic Four wound up being (I know there's more to the FF story than that, but it wound up being a huge write-off for the studio).

It also is probably not a coincidence that there's a Pink Floyd song called "Young Lust" that was pretty popular, and also coincidentally appeared in a movie in 1982. Roger Waters, who also has a record of not being a very nice guy, could have gotten involved. While most likely it would've just ended with a title change, RW is such a jerk-off that he could have shut the whole movie down in the end.

Without confirmation from Paramount, we'll never know. Now I'm curious about this movie. Even if it sucks, now I really want to see it.

Barndoor, is there any chance Kino might still release Pretty Baby and Testament?

Of course there's also the remastered region 2 PAL UK DVD but in the wrong (1.33) ratio.

Unless something's changed, there's no possibility of Testament being in this deal, but Pretty Baby still has a chance.

I was pretty sure it was “Sorry, wrong number” specially after Mr. Insider stated the remaining 40’s Paramount title was a film noir.

Maybe it's an upgrade of something previously released by Olive?

I just copy/paste everything when multiple quotes are related. Hit the regular quote, copy, hit the second regular quote, copy both quotes, and so on until everyone's together. The multiple posts are usually more convenient and they keep relevant discussions together. Ten posts about the copyright status of Metropolis deserve to be kept together with each other, but separate than two or three comments about Little Darlings, since for the most part their fan bases don't overlap. That's my kind of formula here, keep separate topics separate. It does usually piss off a lot of people though. Ask the guys in the Clockwork Orange 4K forum, which is where my time on Blu-ray.com really got started.

I've actually never heard of this movie, but this is probably the reason why it hasn't been released on Blu-ray, and probably not DVD either. While it would be easy to play the complicated ownership card (Amblin is connected to Universal, if not outright owned by them, but I'm not sure who owns the Gramercy library today), the real reason is definitely going to be that they don't want the controversy.

Again, a smaller label wouldn't care about releasing this title, and could probably do it and get away with it. If Criterion or one of the Big Six dropped this, they'd be ran off the face of the earth. It's a shame, too, because it's well-cast and presumably well-acted, and it most likely won't be released again.

Either it had no appeal and I couldn't be bothered to watch it all, or I did and have flushed the movie from my memory banks. But after reading that review, I'd buy it on Blu-ray (only at a reasonable price, like a Kino release) just because I now appreciate the poor-ness of it all, as so lovingly detailed by Ebert. Disney never issued this on US home video and probably never will. (I'm surprised they didn't force this one into that bundle in their old KL deal!) Heck, I even found a way to love "North" from the same year, and would even buy the Blu-ray if it turns up cheap enough (it's Sony, maybe Mill Creek will release a budget copy?) And speaking of critical zingers, I loved Jeffrey Kauffman's quip: 'North' goes south.
Little Indian, Big City (the English dubbed version) was released on VHS back in the 90s, and I ironically bought it after having read Ebert's review. That and I wanted a tape that was long-OOP and most likely never being released again. The original French version, which never came to America, is available on PAL laserdisc definitely from TF1 in France and maybe on DVD in France (I can't confirm whether the discs are legit or not). Why the movie isn't on Archive or YouTube is beyond me, since after nearly 20 years of video sharing surely someone would've posted it in full.

The French version is no masterpiece by any stretch, but it's doable. It helps if you know French (which I don't). Even without knowing French, it's fairly easy to follow along, since it's basically Home Alone if set in Paris and the jungle. It's not exactly going to tug at your heartstrings, since it's kind of hard to sympathize for the kid who climbs the Eiffel Tower and kills flies with blowdarts.

The English version, on the other hand, is horrendous. Imagine the dubbing issues with spaghetti westerns on steroids. Now imagine instead of competent actors doing the dubbing, it's the cast of a third-rate Saturday morning cartoon. Starting to see the problem? Dubs are usually not that great, but this one's especially bad. The dubbing is the worst part of the movie, which otherwise isn't really that bad.

After LIBC bombed ass in theaters and with critics, Disney remade the movie as Jungle 2 Jungle with Tim Allen. It wasn't one of their top-tier movies, but again it was doable, with him quite obviously being the reason the movie didn't absolutely suck. J2J is on Blu-ray through the DMC now, but I assume complicated ownership and lack of demand is the reason LIBC has yet to appear in any form on Blu-ray.

Ironically, Disney thought that they had a hit on their hand with LIBC (which actually was one of the most successful films ever in France and popular but not record-setting in Europe as a whole), and throughout 1995 and 1996 Disney flooded airwaves and their tapes with trailers for the movie. It didn't work. The movie earned less than $1 million in America, which is actually shocking. It's pretty hard for any widely released movie to bomb that hard, and it's only been done a few times (like maybe ten) in cinematic history.

As for North, I'm a little curious about where that will go. Either Sony will repress it's BD-R as a standard Blu-ray, Sony will go all-out and release a 4K like they did on Real Genius (which also started out as a BD-R), hand it off to Mill Creek (who will royally bungle it), or hand it off to Shout (it's debatable how that would turn out). Either way, I can see that going back into print eventually, so there's no reason to pay big bucks for the old BD-R.

Wow.

I know we're not supposed to criticize tastes here, but there must be some pretty unenlightened folks out there to not give blaxploitation a try. I guess we should be kissing the ground Criterion walks on for giving us Shaft and that Van Peebles box set. Years ago KL dropped Ganja & Hess, and I guess if Kino's saying blaxploitation doesn't sell then I guess it didn't sell, which is a shame because it's a great movie.

Eventually either one label is going to branch out into doing blaxploitation regularly, or an actual blaxploitation label is going to appear. While we're nowhere close to running out of movies to bring to Blu-ray, we are running out of genres that have yet to have their moment.

I think I heard that DVDs are declining in popularity, and Blu-rays and 4Ks are both improving in popularity. However, those changes are not remotely big enough to actually change the home video game.

On a positive note though, the physical going down and streaming going up trend has begun to plateau, and more for movies than it has for music, so let's hope that continues.

Never heard of that one. Is it from a reputable company, and does it have any special features? Also, is it 1.33 P&S or 1.33 open matte? While it consistently irritates people on here I have a huge open matte fetish.

Yes, because you're flooding the page. It doesn't take a genius to learn how to use multi-quote. Some forum etiquette goes a long way. Your "formula" is an acute case of I'm the Main Character syndrome.

It may be “Caught”, as it got a new 4k restoration and the Olive edition was sourced from an old transfer.

KLI doesn't play their hand often with sales figures, but they do regularly remind members here that many of their DVDs outsell the BD. They have their sales figures and we don't, so I don't know why people speculate so often.
