That claim is an exaggerated one for sure. "bad transfer" is not representative of how most experience it. One might find 'could have been better' hits a little closer to reality.
Universal is not the one who treats it like shit. Sir Spielberg neglects it, and when he does we end up with what we do. |

I also don’t get this notion of Spielberg not caring about the film, if he doesn’t care about it, why not then let Universal do what they want with it? |

With everybody saying that UHD is the last ever home video disc format, I doubt we'll ever get another remaster, let alone a good one. JP1 home videos suffer from poor colour grading and poor framing while JP3 suffers from wrong colour grading and dulled brightness. Only The Lost World seems to look comparably better for some reason; even though it too has a different colour grading and framing compared to the cinema projection.

I think the 3D version is the best way to experience this on home video. I think it's the only version of the film on home video that we know had some involvement from Spielberg, plus while the grading isn't perfect, I think it's a hell of a lot better than the regular Blu-ray and UHD.

I think the JP1 UHD gets too much hate. It could be better, but it's good enough for me to never focus on its flaws when I watch the 4K.

Extra strange since JP 35mm in general seems to have somewhat less bitingly apparent grain jumping out at you than typical for each scene type. It seems to have had a lot, most, of it shot in ways that kept grain seemingly lower than is often the case for given scenarios.

Never say never especially when it comes to remasters especially with big titles like this. It might be a while but there's always a anniversary that comes along that's worth another go.

That said, I've never been one to obsess over flaws like a lot of other physical media collectors seem to. Unless a transfer is astronomically bad, I tend to be relatively satisfied. And hey, I grew up watching Jurassic Park on a worn-out VHS tape and a boxed TV. Being able to now watch it on a 65" 4K TV and a more than decent 4K disc is a dream, in comparison. Will I buy a better transfer, should it ever be made? Absolutely. Jurassic Park is my favorite film of all time. But will I be bummed if this is as good as it gets? Not really. |

![]() Alien, The Mummy and Die Hard. Yeah sure I wish perfection in a vacuum on Jurassic Park like those HDR10 releases got. Of course. But we of an age where VHS was the first 10-20 viewings of most catalog movies. It's a great time to be alive and feeling spoiled. I wanna choose to celebrate the format giving us a higher low on UHD than a perfect 5/5 picture on VHS or laserdisc. Quote:
But ultimately I'll be happy, satisfied and enjoying the UHD for decades even if this is it. |

The colour grading is not faithful at all to the theatrical prints and the framing of the shots have been tightened (zoomed-in) compared to the 35mm projection and the laserdisc. The original film has a tropical warm look and has higher contrast, better colour separation compared to any of the home video editions released so far. Also, the UHD has noise reduction, which smoothens the picture and reduces film grain. The gate weave has been completely removed and as a result, the title sequence looks dead and video-ish, as opposed to motion picture film. These are my observations.

Honestly I'd take this same master without the processing done to effects shots. I haven't watched it in a while but that's the main flaw in my memory, and I'm not someone who stares longingly at the 3D version's color timing. |

perhaps, although the orange and yellow, for the greens at least, is closer to the original theatrical look, the grass and leaves often had a noticeable yellow-orange tint and were often pale, not at all rich green green or blue green
granted you may prefer the latter, so could call it best even if less theatrically true |
