It's an entirely new mix, straying even further in contents from the original than the DTS:X one. Can't judge the bass on the setup I'm currently on.
The 3D mix has some fixes to some audio elements that had some audio quality issues in earlier mixes and good dynamics.

I am hoping that the Atmos mix is using the fixed elements that were made for the 3D mix, rather than using lower fidelity audio elements.

Do you go back to calíbrated settings after you watch the disc?

Also, the caps seem to indicate at least a touch less of DNR in the new release.

Jesus I know this is the same base elements but it looks way better than I even hoped a rejiggering could look. Super excited now. If they other two are improved as well that would send this into "out of nowhere epic release" territory.

Wonder if World looks significantly different in the other set somehow.

Who wants to bet that there will be at least one person looking at caps of the 2025 and 2022 UHDs side-by-side who will be ranting about teal in the 2025 one?

It's almost as if they know that if they dial in a lil magenta, they can dial it out again to sell the thing to the same person twice

The color changes do seem to be more minor or even absent depending on the scene, but I'm fine with that as long as the goal is a balanced and appropriate picture. If anything it shows more effort was put in, rather than just a 100% flat change in color tone.

Also the grain difference and HDR refinement is far and away worth $60 on its own anyway.

It's there, just more subtle, probably from the HDR regrade and less noise.

Sure, I agree on making things more balanced, but I feel it's still a far cry from the "warmth" it deserved. As for the grain refinement, yeah, it's definitely more refined, but not entirely consistent from shot to shot, to my eyes anyway.

Still, we're only looking at static images, and you know how I feel about those.

Tried to snap the majority of the scenes I have heard folks asking for over the last few pages. Enjoy!

Yeah, I can still see it, but it really is way more subtle. I wonder if it will be visible when watching the movie.

The effects shots are still processed out the wazoo but they do look better thanks to a less harsh grading and warmer tone. At least the brachiosaurus ones, I can't look at every cap lol. Thanks for all your work, man.

I still need to see this scene in motion on the new disc, but I still can't get over how awful it looks on the old UHD: https://slow.pics/c/7mmX3Ieg. It's bothered me for years now.

The brachiosaurus finally looks... well, decent, at least. The other VFX shots look just a little less terrible (but still terrible). As for the rest... it goes from marginally better to somewhat questionable (the brighter night scenes). I'm still mostly impressed by the first image with the kid. Dunno...

If those first two comparisons were reflective of the upgrade as a whole then it'd be an instant buy from me but I'm not sure if the difference in the remaining comparisons warrants an upgrade.

I think I only watched the UHD once or twice before going back to the 3D version as my go-to, but I can't remember it being blasted with DNR (outside of opticals/VFX). The difference in grain in those comparisons looks more like how grain can differ due to slightly better encoding or differences in grading as opposed to the disabling of destructive noise reduction. Pretty sure the OCN was scanned using an archival scanner (an ARRISCAN XT IIRC) for the UHD, and I've never viewed Jurassic Park as a "grainy" film either. Films shot by Cundey are usually light on grain; he's spoke in detail before about different ways he'd minimize grain while working on a film.

While it's good that Universal apparently listened to complaints or realized themselves that their master was subpar, their fixes don't seem to address the main issue which is a completely inaccurate and unfaithful grade. I guess they've remedied some of the symptoms of that issue, but this is a massive film that has been sorely misrepresented on home video for so long and it needs to be treated right.

Feeling underwhelmed again. Colors look mainly the same outside of the films opening minutes. DNR application looks the same but slightly better encoding helps the image a bit but brings more noticed to the more suspected DNR shots.

If the 3D version is your current go-to then that's a whole different situation I can't speak to, but I'm surprised anyone doesn't see a large upgrade in those caps compared to the first UHD. Maybe I'm high on my love for this movie though, I would have eagerly bought it for half this good of an improvement.

We'll see in motion though.
