Unfortunately the original movie has been treated poorly by them in the 21st century.
Look at how they treated it before legacy came out. They really didn’t want to acknowledge it. They wouldn’t allow any screenings of the first movie in the months leading up to legacy opening, because They were so afraid that it would negatively impact ticket sales for legacy.

And when they finally put the Blu-ray out they made certain to plaster that “the original classic” allover the packaging and on the disc, to make sure audiences “knew” it wasn’t the same.

Even now they are limiting the double feature screenings to only a handful of AMC theatres and for one night only. They honestly don’t deserve the franchise.
