Well for me, I wanted a big screen tv but the prices in 2000-2001 were still outrageous 6k+ so I opted for an Epson projector 2k, 720p 1080i and it was great watching DVD, playing pc and ps2 games across a 12ft wall. However the 3,000 hour lamp life with projectors gets eaten up pretty quickly and $300 a pop every 2 years wasn't making sense to me.

Along comes November 2006 and 25 hrs in line for my PS3 because I wanted FFXIII and GT5 (both of which I'm still waiting for ) but now I needed 1080P - Luckily with time progression, the days of changing bulbs in rear projection tv's are gone as well and with the implementation of LED technology I finally purchased my 1080p set the summer of 2007 - dumped the projector and old 27" tv

Hence the transition to blu ray was much easier than letting go of VHS and transitioning to DVD
