I got two tower speakers from a buddy of mine that have a 15" subwoofer, 4" mid, and a 3" tweeter. The normal impedence on them is 8ohms, and max 120w of power. So having a receiver from a HTiB, and 8ohms needing more power, is it not sending as much to the towers?

If I was to get a new receiver, would it make them louder? The kid I got them from said they were real loud at his dads house, and I kind of want them to be..
Not necessarily. You need to look up your make and model of receiver and see what it runs at. You need to be careful hooking up anything from a HTiB to separates as they typically aren't as compatible. What kind of speakers did you purchase? They sound like older/vintage models. There's certainly nothing wrong with that if so, but the 15" sub isn't something you usually see with current models.

Listing your equipment will allow people to help you more. But yes, chances are you'll hear an improvement in sound with a better power source in a new receiver and/or amplifier.
